I have a nail on sidewalk and I just got this tire about 10k miles but I don’t feel like getting new tires again so I was wondering if there’s any fix to help with the issue. It’s a really slow leak so I was wondering about hitting the nail deeper and just putting glue around it almost like epoxy type of glue or something strong like that.

If you punctured your sidewall the tire is no longer safe and needs to be replaced.

That sucks for you I’ve had that happen before. Unfortunately you will have to buy a new tire. Luckily you only have 10K on it. There is a lot of pressure on the tires hitting bumps especially the sidewall. Any reputable and even non reputable tire stores that will tell you it’s junk. Good luck

Is it really on the sidewall aka the vertical part of the tire? For me personally, I will plug any part of the tire that comes in contact with the ground. Now, if it's a cut/slash or anything other than a single puncture I'd start to reconsider. But, as far as I'm concerned a plug with rubber cement is plenty strong to hold up long term. Now, if you are made of money like some folks around here, I recommend going to the dealer and replacing the tire. Maybe even get all 5 replaced so the tread depth matches.

Whatever you do, leaving the nail in place and trying to plug around it is not the correct repair.

A picture would help as well.

    Use some common sense.

Replace the tire. This is a good reason to buy certificates if you get your tires at Discount.

The sidewall will still flex which will compromise any repairs that you attempt.

I agree, I specifically said only any area that comes in contact with the road. Tire repair shops have people terrified these days about plugging anything in the outer thrid of the tire. There is a big difference between "1" and "2" in the picture below. If the nail is really in location 2 I'd swap the tire. I'd also question how the hell a nail got up there.

At 10K it should be prorated if you have road hazard, but it does need replacement.

I had four punctures across two tires from some Jack wagon spewing mail embedded 2x4’s across the road on a curvy highway on a rainy day. They were very close to the sidewall - prolly in or very close to zone 1 in your diagram. Luckily, they were able to plug them but I was worried I would be SOL on a Friday evening a hundred miles from home. That was a year ago and they have had zero issues.

Ouch. Did you by chance just have metal siding or roofing installed?

You said there's only 10k miles on that tire? Those edges look worn, I would also check your wheel alignment.

I would plug that if it was my truck. I wouldn’t chance it on my daughters car. I plugged this one. Holding up fine. Not as close to the edge as yours.

That is not fixed. The ripple in the sidewall means that there is a broken cord, and a blowout is very likely.

Let me guess. You left it on the steer position as well?

I can only hope that nobody else gets dragged into this mess and hurt or worse.

I have plugged sidewalks and right where you plugged this tire. This was just to get me to the tire shop and replace tires that were damaged. Does it suck to have this happen? Of course it does. I don't think I have had a new vehicle in 15 years that something like this happened in the first 1500 miles.

I learned a hard lesson in the Mojave desert in the middle of the night that could have cost myself and three other shipmates our lives. My tires were worn, I was going to replace them two days later (had the appointment) and had a high speed blowout on the front. Car slid sideways, hit a 1 ton truck, damaged my car significantly. That taught me a life lesson I don't ever want to repeat. Now I inspect my tires a lot.
