Just picked up my tundra a 2019. After a bit of google bit of youtube and scrolling this forum looks like I missed the mark on the cooler. I will be towing heavy (for the tundra) in 100+ temps up very steep grades and would like to know at what temp dose the thermostat open I've yet to find a answers. Anyone toss that sucker in a pot of water on the stove with a gauge? Thinking about just leaving that thing pinned open all summer since our heat is quite extreme.

Sorry to break it to ya but 2018 was the last year for the transmission cooler!
Many others have added the oem cooler setup, should be plenty of threads on that if you search it up on here.

I'm not positive on the temp but I'm sure someone around here knows

I think its around the 175-185 degree mark. Towing 10k plus I've never had issues with overheating BUT it wasn't very long distances and it definitely wasn't 100+ degrees outside. Some say you don't need it but it's better to be safe than sorry especially if your overloading with long distances.

I have added one, and I don't exactly watch to see when it opens. However I can tell you it's far before you get to 230. Maybe around 195-210 would be my ballpark guess.

I got a little worried seen a Youtube video in which the guy was says he heard 250, I was thinking about leaving it open all summer but if its opening up around 175-210ish I'll just pull that pin and let it do its thing.

After I had my cooler installed I noticed that it warms up till about 195 then plateaus. If it goes above it during hard use it will cool down below 195. So I think 195 is about the open point

Starts opening around 180-185. Probably fully open around 195. Seems to be closed again around 177.

with the cooler I installed, I haven’t seen over 190 yet. Usually get to 185 then drops back down to 180. Stopped it’ll rest around 177-180. No need to pin the thermostat if you put on a big enough cooler ;).

I'm still looking for all the 2019+ transmission failure threads. Do they have a sticky thread for them yet in the 2.5 gen forum?

2012 here. My transmission holds 200° in any ambient. I'm assuming that means the thermostat is around 200°

I have the Hayden as well. I pinned my new thermostat open, added 1.5qt, leveled the transmission pan, and warmed the truck up to let the fluid cycle through the system.

Once the pan temps reach fluid level check range (99-111ºF, if I remember correctly), open the transmission drain plug until the flow of fluid reduces to a trickle.

Ok thanks. I plan on changing the fluid as soon as it cools down. The fluid that’s in it is pretty stinky/dirty sitting at 50k. Where are you gets getting your Toyota atf fluid dealers only? Online?

A little more like 1.5 quarts after installation. Ordered my fluid from Amazon a little cheaper than my dealer price.

Shouldn’t it be the overflow plug not the drain plug ?

I know this is well past your original post date. I just installed on my 2019 tundra sport crew the factory stat, hard pipe but used a setrab 15 row series 9 cooler. Total cost with factory hoses. Just under 700 bucks.
Well worth the investment. Stat works at 180 to 185 with running water temp is 200 on 75 degree day. Well below the trucks old normal of 220/225 at a 75 degree day without trailer. Have not had the opportunity to hook up trailer.
