Please do not put Plastidip on a $70k+ truck. The stuff is meant for plier handles for Christ's sake.

Plastidip wont hold up and is a pain to clean off.

Do it right or don't do it at all! Plastidip doesn't belong on a tundra IMO.

I think you should do it and the wheels so they match And maybe the mirrors.

If i'm honest, ANY fresh paint applied with care and attention looks good when its fresh. Plasti-dip has a nasty habit of blasting off when you wash and once the first spot opens its a matter of time before it looks like trash. I wanted a black grill so i purchased one from Toyota. Whether or not that is an option for the 3rd gens i am unsure but if not either have it painted professionally or leave it would be my plan.

Works on the emblem. No shame here lol. The platinum grill mustache part is nice in that black chrome. If anything maybe consider ppf on it as it will chip over time. Would not consider whole grill.

Yes paint will chip as I tried that before and had to clean it off to prepare for the plasti dip which is what the OP asked about.

Thanks for the compliment though. The plasti dip still looks the same going on one year on the truck. The only overlay options are black and that looks like shit on the off black grill.

    On chrome:
Won't stick long term. MAYBE if you scuff the shit out of the chrome to give it something to adhere to, but then there's no going back. It will look good for a while.
The advantages are that it's cheap and easy enough to do it again every so often if necessary, but I hate doing things twice.
It's only a pain to clean off if it's improperly applied, that is, too thin/ not enough coats. If applied properly, it will peel right off when you want it to.
Don't even think about using a pressure washer. Even at distance, you can lift an edge.
Plasti-Dip has its place. Wouldn't be my first choice in this instance.

I seen the emblem recently he used Plasti-Dip on and it still did look good, still has plenty of life in it.

I plastidipped my front emblem and two rear bumper panels. Lasted about a year before chrome was coming back through. We get clouds of grasshoppers late summer every year and the plastidip was no match. Pulled it all off and repainted with self etching primer and black bumper paint... Holding up very well after ~6 months. Doesn't have the reversibility of plastidip, but I don't see ever wanting to go back to chrome.

What did the grasshoppers do the plastic-dip?
