ok so I’ve used Rain-X before. It works great for about a few hours in the rain but then the effects diminish. I’ve never used Aquapel. What about ceramic windshield coating? What long-lasting coating-treatment can input on my windshield to get water to bead up for months/years??

I hate Rain-X, etc. because it is IMPOSSIBLE to get your front windshield to look clean when you detail your truck [at least for me]. The stuff they put in it leaves what looks like smears or smudges [when you look at it from farther away] after cleaning the glass.

    Wax it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=449&v=vJkfrY2owb0

Good thread. My Tundra sat on the lot for 6 months apparently before I bought it and the windshield needs attention. Thanks for the info here!

Order up a bottle of collonites 845 insulator wax... Also throw a clay bar kit in the cart while you're at it. Wash the windshield with glass cleaner, clay bar the hell out of it, then wax it with 2 coats of 845... Your life will be a whole new happy world. 845 insulator is amazing!!! NOT TOO MUCH!!! Just a thin haze is all it takes. I use it on everything. Boats, planes, classic cars, tundra, camper.....

I use Rain-x washer fluid. When the water stops beading up, I hit the washer and it's like brand new again. Even works while it is raining. No ladders or manual labor involved.

My truck just broke 1000 miles. I was impressed with the beading on the windshield. First thought was the dealer used some kind of spray wax on the whole vehicle. Hmmmm
    Who knew.

I've done rain-x and aquapel. Each has it problems.

Aqua lasts about 6 months but the effectiveness on initial application is worse than rain-x.

Rain-x lasts about 30 days effectively but in a good rain storm it flings water better than any wipers on the highest setting at speeds above 35 mph. The harder the rain and the faster you go the better it works.

I know rainx has a hazy film application but a decent damp cloth wipedown after application resolves that.

Aquapel lasts longer but I am so use to how rainx performs in the first 30 days I just re-apply as needed. I buy a big spray bottle of it.

I use RainX, but have never tried Aquapel. I notice the effects of RainX diminish after about 3 months, so I reapply it when I wax, at least on the windshield. It lasts far longer on the other windows. After I apply it, I wipe again with a damp microfiber and I never have any residual haziness. I love not having to use my wipers on the freeway - and I really love how much easier it is to clean off the bugs when my Rain-X is fresh. I may have to try the 845 insulator wax though, as that may make the bug issue even easier. Also, I really hate driving rental cars because the windshields aren't treated!

I've tried rainx a couple of times but that was years and years ago. I stopped because it seemed to make the wipers squeak obnoxiously across the windshield. Drove me crazy.

Rain-X is a pox on mankind. It makes water bead up, but it also causes a fog on the windshield during high humidity that can't be cleared by the wipers. A new coating of fog is created as the wipers go by. If you're lucky, you get an inch or so of visibility as the wiper goes by. I usually sat in the truck until it warmed up and ran the defroster on high until the fog cleared. A friend put it on a truck I had long ago after telling me how wonderful it was. I later jokingly told him if he ever did that to me again, I'd guarantee that he'd limp for the rest of his life. On the Tundra, I keep the washer tank full of fluid when I go in for an oil change so that the dealer doesn't top it off with their fluid that's been contaminated with Rain-X.

Get the Orange RainX wiper fluid. Used it for years. No issues. Works fine. Just squirt your windshield every now and then.

Rain X here, but spray bottle for some reason seems weaker, doesn't last as long. I am interested in this Aquapel though

Another vote for the rainx windshield washer fluid, IveI never experienced the high humidity issue either. I've waxed using a rainx product with good results. The beadmaker could be a good approach.

Good timing on this post. I hate that fog. I had to stop in the street this morning and blow the defroster on full blast until the windshield is heated up enough for it to disappear. I have tried to wipe it off and have tried other products to try and clean the windshield, but can't get it off. It started right after I used the Rain-Ex the first time.
I actually took a photo to post and ask if anyone has a solution to clean the windshield. and get rid of this residue. BTW, the truck was washed yesterday, so the windshield is clean. Once it heats up and the fog disappear, it is crystal clear.

    outside.
spots that wipe away but appear again immediately. Only when the windshield is cold. When I turn the defroster on and heat the inside of the glass, the outside spots disappear. Or driving a mile or 2 they will disappear and the windshield is crystal clear. This morning with the sun right in front of me it was so bad I had to stop and wait for the heater to warm up and defrost the windshield. I could not see anything.

That is just bizarre - I have never seen anything like that in all my years of using RainX. Almost looks like hard water spots - the distribution would not be what you would expect from wiping RainX across your windshield. Maybe the RainX is bringing out some other stain? I would go at your windshield hard with vinegar. If that doesn't work, maybe try acetone or nail polish remover. Once you have it clean, then I'd wax it for protection and avoid hard water getting on your truck. And frankly, if that was my truck, I'd replace the windshield if none of those things work!

Be reaalllll careful with acetone. It will attack paint and plastics!

And nail polish remover typically has acetone in it.

Agreed - Gotta be damn careful. Though I think the vinegar would do the trick if it is etching from hard water.
