I have a 2016 Toyota Tundra and am thinking about an arb air locker, wondering what the experience is like and how does it effect the trac control/electronics

I hear those Eaton E lockers should be hitting the market anytime. Just another option

E lockers are good but not as good as ARB. The e locker disengaged between forward and reverse which, if technical wheeling, can be dangerous as you need to let the vehicle roll back or forward after shift before it engaged. Not always a bad thing but something to think about. https://www.theengineblock.com/debate-air-lockers-or-e-lockers/

I have both front and rear arb lockers. Both leak. Maybe just bad install at two separate shops. But the front will still work but compressor cycles after ever 10 seconds. As for the rear. I’ve had to replace the copper line that jumps over the ring gear(design flaw). It over the ring gear too close and I would say washboard roads killed it both times. The copper line gets nicked and no more locker just compressor never stops cycling and you can hear the air spewing out in the diff and in the diff breather relocation if you have one like I do. It’s really quite annoying as it’s not a cheap fix for the part or the labor. But when it works it works great. On my third copper line and still need to get it replaced. Third and final shop asking 600 for rear and 900 for the front. I will fix it at some point, but I am strongly considering buying the e lockers. I know other have no issues, but this shit sucks for the amount of money sent. The second time they were fixed they were fixed for free as I had my 5.29s installed at the same time so they just did it to help me out cause I told them they were both leaking. Not sure why the front leaks. I unplugged the front line and used my finger to stop the compressor from cycling and it holds fine. The moment it goes back into the fitting the locker leaks somewhere and compressor cycles every 10 seconds but works. Quite annoying.7EEDB68B-CFAE-45EE-8DEE-62D6E6AB4C37.jpg72D95569-3397-4C0B-8DE2-DF6D6BF7B868.jpg600737A2-4467-4C64-BF0B-FE0A933CEFD7.jpg

Has there been any news on the release date for the E-Locker?

I refuse to get an ARB air locker for this reason. Leaking is a common issue.

    Not enough....
I wouldn't mind one, but as @Jimes pointed out, air leaks are a common issue. I'm waiting for Powertrax to finally release the Grip Pro.

However I wish Powertrax made the No-slip (https://www.powertrax.com/product-info/no-slip-traction-system/) for the new gen Tundras. I had one in my first gen for over a decade, only rebuilt it with new springs once (around $20), and it can easily be done at home without special tools since it just replaces the spider gears. No need to reset backlash or any of that trouble. It was otherwise flawless. No ratcheting, fully locked when on the gas, unlocked when off. It was a monster off road and in the snow during winter. And a fraction of the cost of other lockers too.

Maybe one day they'll make it for the 10.5" diff :boink:

There’s a few guys on here that have had zero issues with theirs. I wish I was one of them. Just blows for the price you pay. That’s the only part on my Toyota that’s not reliable. I believe @joonbug has them without issues. Maybe he’ll chime in since I just tagged him on his experience.

Someone in Australia I believe made a bracket for their locker to hold the line away from the ring gear, but it wasn’t for a tundra, but it had the copper line go over the ring gear as well and it fixed the issue. Nobody makes the bracket for our model locker though. I looked for weeks. I wish arb made one considering its a design flaw. Plus getting the replacement parts isn’t fun either. The part cost like 90 dollars each I believe. Then you have the o ring issue, but I never had that issue. It even says to replace the o ring with a different one that arb does not sell. Again, they know about these issues and do nothing about it.

Here it is. But it’s for an rd128. Not sure if it would work for ours but I can’t buy it either as well. Now if someone made one for ours I would buy it in a heartbeat.

I've read countless posts about the ARB's leaking. In fact, check out Jimes post right under yours. If it wasn't for so many members having problems with them, I would have put in a rear already

Eaton/harrop e locker can be sourced state side through a couple of vendors, mainly cruiser brothers that I've heard of. It's pricey!

I've owned 3 ARB lockers and have had no issues. I take that back, the one I have in my current 4runner had damage to the copper wire from the previous owner but after silver brazing a new copper line on, zero issues. Problems are usually associated with poor installation

I’ve recently talked to one of the best gear installers in the country and he won’t install ARB lockers, he’s seen to many failures and won’t put his name on that installed.

The ARB 3rd members are beautifully machined as you can see in their video. The issue is the air line needs to be improved.
