truck wires.jpg I recently purchased a 2008 Tundra. In the read of the bed are these wires. Do these belong to a cover that was previously on it? Is there a way to determine what cover they would have gone to?

Looks like it could be wiring for a cap; maybe had interior lights and third brake light. Not sure if there is a way to identify what kind of cap or cover it went to, but looks like there is an in-line fuse there. I would use a voltmeter and check the brakes to see if they are active. Also is there some type of switch that you can identify when the tailgate is open? I have seen some that have an automatic light switch when the tailgate opens

They look like they were wiring to a cap. I had an ARE that had wires for interior dome light , tail lights and power lock. The red one is probably always powered for the dome light which was switched from the inside of the cap door. I'd hook a meter up to each one and start testing them.

I'll have to check and see if there is a light that says the tailgate is open. I've never looked before. There is an aftermarket towing brake system installed. But would these be for that when they are up that high on the truck? Usually the brake booster connects down by the trailer hitch.

I'll have to have my son-in-law take a look at them. He's the electrical wizard.

looks like it. Trace them back. check behind tail light cover as well. They usually wired the 3rd brake back there.

Good idea. They are definitely not running from that point to the front of the bed, I already checked that. That's why it confused me as to what they were for.

That is exactly where the wires for my cap come out.
