Looking to replace the oem tires but keeping the stock platinum rims.

23 platinum all stock. Not looking to lift or level kit at the moment.

Read through a ton on the tires page but can’t get a conclusive answer.

Nitto Recons or Toyos, doesn’t really matter the brand.

    But does LT285 65 R20 work? Or even a LT285 60 R20? No rub or trim?

+60 offset on the platinum rims I believe.

If anyone that similar setup please advise. I believe the 1794s (non OR)also have similar rims in a different color.

No expertise or experience here, but I would think 285/60r20 would fit without issue. 34.6" diameter (285/65) might be pushing it, but I hope others with firsthand experience chime in.

I only have 275/60r20s for my winter tires, summer tires are still oem.

35s, full stuff, lock to lock without any modifications, with no lift? On OEM wheels?

Thanks for the inputs. I have been reading though the forums and I’m in the same “should” fit boat.

On one page of the tire thread, one guy had a black platinum that he put 295 65 R20 and said it fit with no rug or mod on stock.

Just trying to make some subtle changes without spending a ton on tire/rim lift etc.

Is it just people with lower offset wheels that are running into issues with 285/75r18s and similar?

That size is actually 285 65 20, Toyota stated size that fits. I think it’s the same size on that red limited Toyota demo truck. Needs a spacer to clear the sway bar.

I have a 2023 1794 and plan on putting on just the max rated tire size on my stock rims. I, like you, am hoping a 285/65/20 on my stock rims will be fine but I am planning on getting the dealer installed 3 inch trd lift at the same time so pretty sure i will be totally fine. Plan on getting the Cooper Discoverer AT3 XLT tires mounted. They have an awesome load rating and because I have the hybrid(heavier weight) should come in handy. Not to mention a 65,000 mile warranty. I had a set on my '12 Tundra rock warrior and absolutely loved them. Relatively quiet too! Be sure to list/pics of your build.

Getting 35x11.5x20 Nitto Recon's installed tomorrow morning on stock Platinum wheels and will let you know. I also have some spacers coming in sometime (1") for a wider stance. Getting the Westcott level installed whenever that comes in also but the tires are first.

Had tires installed. No issues/no rubbing and was exactly what I was looking for. Will put the spacers on once received but not sure about even the level now-might be good enough for me now.

Looks great! Did you get 285/65/20's? Or were they sized 35/11.5/20?

35x11.5x20 Nitto Recon Grapplers. Yeah-couldn't stand the other tires.

Im not saying they don't look good, they do, but I don't really agree unless toyota had a lighter P rated 35 made or something

I have no interest in load d or e heavy tires stock, too heavy and too stiff to come with all tundras factory.

Before adding the TRD lift, I put LT 275/65/20 Toyo OC ATIII and there were no issues whatsoever. I think those tires are 34.1 inches.

This is exactly what info I needed. Thank you.
Guess if 35x11.5x20 fits then 285/65/20 also works.

On a 1/2 ton? No thanks. Almost all of those are load range E, and will ruin the ride of the truck and provide little in the way of increased capabilities because the axles, springs, frame, gearing, and brakes are still just 1/2 ton equipment.

Now if we’re talking about a 3/4 ton and up with any kind of off-road package I agree 100% that 35”s on an 18” wheel should be the standard.

Any reason why the Nitto recon and Toyo needs a 8.5” rim min for 285/65/r20 but goes down to 8” min for 35x11.5r20?

Even though 285 tires are 11.2" the diameter is smaller than the true 35/11.5 so the bead contour is slightly different. Having said that the difference is negligible, I would just run 8.5-9.5's for either of these sizes.

I believe the stock platinum rims are 20x8 so just noticed that 285 may be an issue.

Anyone else like these rims for a 35x12.5x18 tire? This is a pretty good look in the" not too expensive" range.

Did you have to trim the plastic that hangs down behind the rear wheel? Just looking at it, it looks like it will rub that slightly with the 35x11.5.

Thanks to you and everyone else in this thread for the posts...this thread is VERY helpful.

I’m pretty sure that part does not rub. Rear wheel issues are very rare under 37s.

I’ve been researching tires for my platinum with 20” wheels. I read of traction benefits of a narrower tire. Does anyone know the science behind this? I’m considering getting a taller tire for looks, but not sure I want to wider at the expense of traction. Seems like a wider contact patch would make better traction, but articles I’ve read recently claim there is an ideal ratio of weight vs contact patch, ie: too wide of a contact patch doesn’t cut through the water or snow, and has a tendency to float on top of it.

For sand you want wide. For pavement you want narrow?

.5-1" isn't going to make much difference so just get what you want.

that small difference isn't worth even looking into the science of it, just get some new shoes and roll on

Hi Hunter, your truck looks great as is pictured here. Just to confirm, this picture is with 35x11.5x20 Nitto Recons, on stock Platinum wheels, no lift and no spacers… completely stock truck; and you have no rub in any steering angle? Also, is this a 4X4? Thank you in advance for your response.
