Just picked up my new 2024 TRD PRO in terra. I live in northwest PA. It turned cold a couple of days ago. The high today was 15. Down to 4 at night. I want to turn off the auto-retracting outside rearview mirrors. They seem to be triggered by the door locks. I have looked through my manuals and I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to turn off this unwanted automatic feature. Can anyone help me ? MJD-TRDPRO

On my 1794 there is a switch right next to the mirror adjustment knob.

Switch operates 3 ways. Just toggle forward to avoid auto folding.

Thank you ! I was going through all the customizable features looking for it. But now that you mention it..... I remember seeing that switch.

On a related note, you can change the auto-retract behavior with Carista. Rather than on door lock, you can set it to when you turn the engine off. I like to have them retracted before getting out.

I switched to engine on/off because I don’t like them operating every single time I go out to get something from the truck

i just manually switch them to retract when needed. otherwise they stay out.

rather replace the switch than the mirror motor.

Toyota keeps it simple, vs other that you have to turn on the ign go to this screen and so forth. Love having this buttons back and it's easy to switch mirrors for backing up again no for scan bs just turn the side mirror control left or right and they lower when you put it reverse. Hit switch for running boards when washing. Nice and simple!

You can also toggle it to close or open the mirrors upon ignition in the settings menu.

What is Carista? I just got my 2023 Tundra and would like to change mirrors to close when I turn the truck off. Sorry for the dumb question about Carista.

If you switch the folding option to when the truck is off…obviously you need to be careful getting out of your truck. It would be awful having a passing by car take your door and possibly your arm off by not seeing it coming. Anytime I have to parallel park I’m always checking the mirror to see cars coming so I don’t open the door into it. This is a huge reason I like that they fold when you hit the fob

There is a fold/unfold icon on door above window control switch that has an "A" in the middle of the Switch and it that means automatic so if it is locked up you can tell by the mirrors being folded up you need to switch that position to the icon A showing the mirror pic

Also keep in mind if in a more harsh winter climate that the mirrors will freeze when retracted under certain conditions. This happened to me a couple weeks ago after a rain that then froze overnight.
My 20 mile ride into work the next morning was spent with the mirrors retracted as I didn’t want to manually force them to open position and chance damaging the motors or mechanism.
For the winter I have left them in the open position to avoid the situation again.

I had the mirrors freeze up after a nasty snow storm so I leave them extended unless I’m negotiating the Trader Joe’s parking lot or similar. I’d also rather replace just the motor - but are those even available right now? You might only be able to replace the whole mirror and I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re backordered. That’s the price we pay for driving 5500 lbs. of rolling chip shortages.
