Hey guys, did a quick search and didnt see anything (surprised me) - but is there a mod already to code out (turn off) the AutoStart/Stop feature ? I havnt looked into the cbus options yet, but I assume that somebody had to have done this already.

Yea I am new here, and look to meeting new friends ..

    Welcome!

I don’t know if there’s a Techstream setting available but you have options:

    1) judicious use of the brake pedal
    2) disabling auto stop/start with the button on the dash

I rarely use the button, only in extended stop/go traffic with the radar cruise on. If you don’t mash down on the brake it’s pretty easy to keep the motor idling in normal traffic.

For my driving patterns the dash button is fine, no need to disable it in the CAN. YRMV

Thanks for the response, yea I am just like to disable it completely full time. (I did it on my Benzes) since a hard press will put the car in Soft Park, and sometimes I forget which vehicle I am driving etc.

Whats the difference in NORMAL and EXTENDED on the AUTOSTOP/START feature in the vehicle settings ? wasnt sure what that meant

I have a hybrid so my starter is really only used after you fuel the truck. The start/stop is handled by the electric motor. which is silent so it doesn't bother me. Do the non-hybrids do that stupid shit with the loud ass starter at red lights? That would drive me crazy.

the non hybrids basically will turn off the engine when BRAKE is applied if the load on the car can be handled via battery, and then engine STARTS when brake peddle is lifted off. I more hate it due to wear on the starter etc.. (yes I know there are tons of debates on this) but all my other cars I coded it out. guess I just need to get the laptop and snoop thru the bus on it.

@Raven67 Thanks man.. I prefer to code it out directly, and not add wired defeater's , but I will :) lots to play with on this thing.

Exactly what Raven67 said. Like the 2nd mod I put on the truck. Only because it took an extra day to get to me. I would always forget to turn it off when driving. And it is so stupid. Come to a stop and put it in park and it shuts off, to start back up for me to turn the truck off. Just plain dumb!

Agree Mike. The autorestart 1 second after it shuts itself down after shifting to Park drives me mad. I shut down in Neutral now, shift to Park then turn off the ignition. Has become automatic for me now. Two dealers I go to play dumb and won’t even discuss it.

I don’t see why y’all get wrapped around the axle on this - auto start/stop is a feature not a bug. There’s a button on the dash to disable it, just add it to your pre-flight checklist.

Burning fewer hydrocarbons is a good thing and I trust the engineers got it right with the EF battery and a starter designed for the job.

According to the manual Stop/start system only works while "The driver’s seat belt is fastened" Hint-hint ;)

Toyota is just getting so damned intrusive. "TOYOTA, YOU MAKE A TRUCK. SO MAKE A FRIGGING TRUCK, NOT A $50-70K BABYSITTER"
