May sound like a stupid question but bear with me. I have a 2022 Tundra. The dealer left my automatic parking break function on. Is there any reason not to just leave it on? I actually like not having to think about it when I park on a hill or something. It comes on automatically any time I put my truck in park. I really don’t see a down side to this but I’m making sure there isn’t a reason I shouldn’t leave it on all the time cause there are obviously instances it may not be ideal or else turning off and on wouldn’t be an option

My wife's 2019 Rav4 has this. I say what can it hurt. You're in park which means your not looking to go anywhere anyway so why not. There is however a button on the console to manually engage or disengage the brake. I take it to the mountain skiing and have never had it freeze in the on position either if thats a concern of yours.

No reason you shouldn't leave it on.
It uses the service brakes and not a separate set dedicated exclusively to the parking brake function.

Although it's not a Tundra I have the automatic parking brake on mine too and I've left it on ever since I've had this truck with no problems .

I have driven automatic transmissions since the mid 60s and had manual transmission vehicles at the same time. The number of times I used the parking brake with an automatic transmission I can count on one hand, mainly on very steep grades to prevent loading up the transmission. Those were all manual linkages which if loaded, you had a hard time getting out of park. I don’t know if the 22 is a manual or electronic linkage or if it’s parking brake locks the drive shaft. Since both going into park and applying the parking brake lock the drive shaft, I assume Toyota has figured out how to not load up the transmission on a steep grade by having the parking brake engage first.

This is actually a great feature. At the minimum it will keep the brake exercised and not as likely to rust or freeze up over time, especially for those who for whatever reason don't tend to use their parking brake.

Please explain the process of turning on auto parking break? Coming from a pull cord it’s A little confusing to me.

Not sure how the tundra works, but on my daughter's CRV there's an electric motor and gear attached to the rear discs. When you push the button the motor turns and engages the rear brakes.

I haven't seen a new Tundra yet but my Corvette has an electric parking brake. Push the button one way to engage it, the other way to release it. The Tundra has to have a similar button. And these guys are saying that Tundra has an auto feature that sets it automatically when you put the trans in Park. Probably need to go into the truck's system settings on the screen to select that option.

The feature adds another layer of safety. Times are few that anyone would need to disable it, ie if towing a big load downhill and you have managed to overheat the rotors.

One is the parking brake. The other is the brake hold. Push it and you can take your foot off the brake and to release it (I believe) You step on the gas. Wife's rav4 has it. Haven't used it.

Learning on a manual muscle memory makes me activate the parking brake every time. Which sucks because one truck (tundra) it’s push further to disengage other truck (ford f350) it’s a pull handle. Well if you push further on the ford nothing happens but if you pull the handle on the tundra the hood pops. Ffs. Happens at least 2-3 times a week.
