Ok guys I know this has been discussed before but I'm looking for some switches and I am not able to find exactly what I'm looking for. I would like to fill in the blank on the dash where the factory Toyota security blank is and also the blank next to the fog light switch. I don't want to just throw in something cheap after drilling a hole I would like it to look good. I searched for the oval switches all over and am not able to find anything but I thought someone made them not long ago. The security location I'm just not sure of the exact size and don't want it to be wrong. Has anyone replaced either of these? I know I'm not the only one looking for something like this. Any input would be great. I will add a picture of the dash location that I am talking about.

I’m in this thread to learn.

Also, I’ll be opening up this assy dash tomorrow to replace the fog switch backlight bulb.

    A couple of things:

    1) Can the blank black button be used over a fog switch? See pic

    2) What do you plan to use these locations for?

I am here to learn also. I have been wondering what goes in the middle position, and the rectangle myself. @Professional Hand Model let me know how that backlight replacement goes. Are you going led, or incandescent again?

The middle button doesn't seem to have any function for the early 1st Gens. Some of the later ones had side curtain airbags and there was a button to disable those. Apparently some people had their curtain airbags deploy when offroad at certain angles. I only know this because someone else mentioned it on here.

It's weird that Toyota would include a blank button on the early ones if there was no use. Or maybe there is and I'm not aware.

So I have been out to the local pick and pull and got a couple of blanks off of a sequoia. One is for the security the other was for heated mirrors figure I could hack these up worst case scenario but I don’t want it to look like crap C355A6BB-79C5-468F-8A4C-C96910DC8460.jpgE6825A7D-4D30-49F9-86CD-1480A8F85596.jpg

Use the cap (blank black button ‘cover’- if removeable) over the new fog switch assy (pictured above) such that one doesn’t have two ‘fog’ buttons adjacent to each other. Essentially, buy a fog button and convert it to an anything button (black blank).

Not sure I understand using the blank over the fog switch? I am planning on installing ditch lights and a led light bar

I don't understand question 1, but I gather you are after OEM buttons with OEM functions?

I see you bought some used switches. I was recco’ing that you buy a new fog switch and pull the cap off of it and use the blank black cap (from your dash if possible) over in place of the now removed fog switch cap.

But looks like you are covered with the used switch (mirror heater switch to turn on ditchlights). Just thinking a pure black switch would look clean per your original mandate.

I understand what you are saying. Guess I was looking to find something similar to what the 2nd and 3rd gen guys have available for switches that’s all.

Ok now I have got another thought. Anyone have an 05 or 06 with the blank locations in the center console that can check if the size is the same for the security location on the left of the steering wheel. I can get a custom cut switch for an 05-06 and drop it in if they are the same.

So you want to drop a custom button in where the security switch goes? Or is it just an indicator? What does that security thing even do?

Yes that is correct my truck does not have the factory security so I am looking to use that location for a switch. I want it to look more factory I guess you can say so I don’t want to just drill a hole and slap in a cheap switch.

Forgive my ignorance, but ditch lights?

I'm assuming these light up the perimeter of the truck for offroad use?

Ah, I see now. If I had a V8, and four wheel drive I wouldn't mind that addition either.

My truck is the little V6, two wheel peel unit.

Okay, so back to my original question. What does the security switch do? It looks like it has a light, and a buzzer in it?

I'm assuming to deter unwanted operators?

Neat. So I guess my truck wouldn't have the sensor for glass break. Lol

So you are just using blank to eliminate the back light, and it just looks like an insert that only you know is a button?

(I guess I should start calling it a switch so I can sound more "technical")
