What would be the average life of factory bilstein shocks? My 2013 Rock Warrior came with. Also. Is there true tale signs they need replaced? Thanks for any replies.

Depends upon how you use the truck.

    If they're leaking, that's a pretty obvious.

At 45,650 miles my 2015 rear Bilstein shocks blew a seal and leaked out the oil. I feel that I may have shortened their life expectancy because I tow a rather heavy trailer with a 940 pound tongue weight when fully loaded. The Bilsteins are more of an off road tuned shock and less load carrying shock. Rapid compression and rebound strokes while lightly loaded versus heavy load management with large but slower compression and rebound strokes. Just a different purpose shock.
I replaced the rear shocks with Monroe shocks. I've been happy with them so far both empty and loaded.

Not leaking and I am at 159K miles. Picked up this truck in September and was wondering if I am jusr paranoid r need to think about it. It was a company work truck. Not much towing but carried supplies and trash in bed.

Factory shocks are usually shot by 50k miles if not way before then. Some get longer depending on use.

    Signs shocks are shot:

    tire wear
    Bouncing after a bump.
    Poor handling/braking.

Take a shock off and see if it still has a N2 charge. A lot of times the shock will stay compressed instead of extending back out.

Not seeing or experiencing any of the issues stated. I will just go with them until I find a great deal on a set. Thanks for replying.

Makes me wonder if these have been replaced once already.

The stock black tundra shocks are usually done by 50k miles. The OR package shocks and Sport Package shocks (yellow and blue, red and blue) fare better and will last 60-80k miles. Of course all that depends on use. Frequent off-roading will reduce the life as will heavy loads/towing.

Shocks should be replaced when they lose their dampening ability. You will notice that by feeling more road vibrations, more harsh feeling on bumps, looser handling, wandering and of course if the seals fail and the shock is leaking- regardless of miles a leaking shock should be replaced.

    Too many, but not enough....
If you brake normal, not slam on the brakes, and the nose of the truck takes a noticeable dive, thats a good sign.
