So I need to redo outer cv boot, my 36mm socket is way too small. Google tells me it’s 35mm. My cheap pos plastic caliper measures around 40mm. So what size socket do I need?

Sounds like it has an aftermarket CV and nut. OE is 35mm.

OEM typically has pink band like what you'll see here: https://www.tundras.com/threads/do-these-look-like-oem-cvs.109810/

If you need to re-order OEM, they're way more bulletproof than aftermarket. Reman part number is 43430-0C010-84. Sometimes you can get them as cheap as $125 at the Toyota Parts site, on pickup from a local dealership.

Just have a boot to slap onto axle, not swapping axle

Right, but identifying if your axle is OEM would help answer why you're seeing a different fastener size.

Agreed, priority is to redo boot, no problem with axle, aftermarket or not. Probably going to drive it to auto parts/tool store and pop off dust shield in parking lot to size the socket needed

When I did mine it was a 41MM and almost impossible to find. Just get it from the Amazonians.

Good luck! I would order that 41mm too, just to be safe. Not sure which set you ordered, but I walked through HF for an or so and none of their kits have the right size. I tried 38mm-40mm, all too small.

When you do get the right socket and get ready to do the job, make it easy on yourself. Take the center cap off the wheel and break the nut loose with the truck on the ground.

Yeah, the gal at the register helped me remove cardboard/plastic n I popped it open to carry a couple sockets out to the truck in parking lot to size em. When I saw it was a 41mm I went back in n bought it. Yeah I’ll be leaving it on its weight. More concerned bout the cheapness of the set, specifically the breaker bar.

Nice, sounds like you have a more laid back HF than I do!

I bet they will be alright. At least you aren't buying jack stands or a spring compressor.
