Ok I’ve been fighting this issue for months now and cannot figure it out. I purchased one of those carABC things that can give your radio CarPlay without swapping it. It ended up crapping out in under 24 hours. so I went to take it out I had backed up right before backup camera working perfectly. Took it out put the radio back in and now the camera doesn’t work. And the screen isn’t black it just doesn’t even recognize that I had put it in reverse it just stays playing music. I’ve checked all the connections nearly ten times now and nothing is messed up. The truck keeps giving me a B15D8 code but I just can’t figure out what’s causing all this.

Does your parking assist ECU work? Does your Nav work?

If you don't have Nav then most likely you do not have the parking sensors at all 4 corners. It points to those cables so I assumed this may be the cause.

If you checked and double checked the wiring connections then I am stumped. Also there is nothing I know about CarABC

Do you think it could have messed something up on the radio itself.

Have you found a solution to this? I'm having the same problem. Nothing happens when I go into reverse once I uninstalled.

I would check any fuses for that system. Could be under hood or dash. Fuse becomes more probably if you removed the unit you took out and did not disconnect battery.

Forgive me for my intense lack of knowledge, but how does one "check a fuse" in this situation? I have a multimeter, do I go check every one to see if it shows anything? Do I do this while the vehicle is on or off? Or is it a visual thing I'd see?

So this is a problem I'm experiencing too, just on my 2017 Prius. Haven't been able to find any info about this problem over on the Prius forums, and this seems to be one of the only threads I can find period that is documenting this issue, so here we are.
Hoping I can jump in here with what my findings are thus far.

Regarding parking radar sensors, smart park functions, ECU, Nav, GPS, the ECU fuses, and other CANBUS related things, there appears to be no faults or dysfunctions.
Though I do also have the B15D8 error code.

My first guess was that the carABC broke something within the reverse camera itself. I purchased a secondary backup camera, plugged it in, and nothing. The issue persists.
Second guess was that the headunit wasn't supplying power to the camera. Multi-metering the power output for the camera from the head unit gives us the 6v we need. And testing again at the camera connector on my rear hatch also presents 6v.
Third guess was that the headunit no longer detects the car being put into reverse gear, and inst triggering the camera. Getting into the entune diagnostics menu and poking around presented that the head unit is still registering the reverse gear signal.
Fourth guess was that a setting with the headunit had been flipped. Initializing the headunit from the diag menu didn't solve anything, nor did flashing updated software from Toyota.

In poking around the entune diag menu, I found a screen that shows status indicators for different things, one of them being the reverse camera, which it shows the indicator "NCON"
The diag manual for entune head units lists "NCON" as "not connected (previously detected item)"
(Thumbing through the rest of the entune diag manual, especially the section on reverse camera issues, was largely unhelpful.)

So, I think OP is correct that this is hardware issue with the headunit itself.
And, it makes sense in my mind that something about the carABC bricks the headunit's ability to detect the original video signal from the reverse camera.

As for continuing to figure this whole thing out I don't yet know a clear path forward. But here's the thoughts I've got and maybe someone more knowledgeable can chime in.

    1. Can the video signal be altered somehow to trip the head unit into recognizing it again?
    2. Can the video signal detection in the head unit be bypassed somehow?
    3. Is there an alternate video input on the head unit that could instead be used? Maybe not a perfect solution but at least something workable?
    4. Do I go down the road of fully replacing the headunit with an expensive aftermarket one?
    5. Should I swap out the ECU fuses just for the hell of it?

    Anyways, that's what I've got.

It's late and I don't have my wiring diagram but when the radio see ground when put in reverse the camera should come on. You can ground that wire to confirm. Check the pin in the connector, it's likely pushed back out of the connector or you have pulled the wire from the connector when unplugging.

I'm down to try that. If possible can you elaborate on which wire exactly should be grounded?

    Too many, but not enough....
I second a loose connection when you took your radio out. There is alot of wires back there and not alot of slack when you take it out so likely its a simple loose connection.

Did anyone here figure out how to restore the rear camera? I have the same issue after I Uninstalled a wireless android auto in my stock head unit.

I Don't think it's a loose connection. The kit included toyota style connectors to just patch in behind the head unit. And with the carABC unit disconnected, just using the wires in their "passthrough" configuration, the head unit has this issue not displaying the reverse camera. So truly I think this device is causing some kind of issue with the head unit itself.

And still, no solution exists as yet to restore the head unit to original functionality. I draw ever closer to getting an aftermarket head unit. Hopefully in summer I'll get around to it.
