    Hi folks

I want to add some lights to my Tundra. Do you think the LP6 mounted on the A pillar (hood brackets) will work or will they be too heavy for this mounting location?

Which brackets would you go with?

Thank you for your feedback, B.

Yes, the question is whether the LP6 are too heavy and their light output will blind the driver having them mounted at this location...

As for blinding other drivers, almost any light you mount on the A-pillar is going to do that. Lights mounted to that location are typically used for off-road or fog, or on lonely desolate stretches of road where deer and whatnot jumping from the shoulder is a real concern, but on-coming traffic is few and far between. Most states don't allow A-piller lights to be used on public roadways.

Well, this is clear but I was asking regarding being blindet myself as a driver, what do you think?

Maybe I don't understand; are you asking if YOU'LL be blinded by an LP6 mounted at the A piller facing forward? No, I don't think so, not if that's your blue truck. If your truck was white, the reflection off the paint could be crazy bright and distracting to you. But these lights WILL be TOO BRIGHT for others driving toward you. So not appropriate, in my opinion, to most public road travel.

They are danged heavy at 4.2 pounds, and large and bulky to have placed in the windshield view area. That said, A-piller mounts from SDHQ, Rago, Pelfrey (collectors items), or several others would work. They're all really heavy mounts.

Edit: The mounts attach to the hinge that connects the hood, underneath, so you can look at that while seated in your truck, to picture the approximate location of the lights in front of you, through the windshield.

Thank you, guess that answers my questions. I will try to make a mokup in order to see whether they take too much drivets view.

Those are big lights. The bodies are large and deep. I don’t believe anyone’s a-pillar brackets will withstand the weight of those lights. Eventually they will fail.

Im using BD XL80s on my A pillars with SDHQ brackets. I havent done a size comparison but they are holding up just fine. Hopefully that helps

The XL80's are listed as 2.45 lbs. The LP6's are listed as 4.2 lbs.

OP, maybe tell us why you're thinking of choosing XL80's, then maybe we can weigh in with other options (like Larmand did).

So i just read the specs, and the LP6s are about 2 inches bigger in height and width than the XL80. In my opinion, those are going to be way too big in that location. The XL80 is almost too big for me, and ive though about going down a size.

I just thought they would look cool, especially with the amber DLR incorporated. Given that the truck is big as well, why not add "real" lights. But I agree, taking into consideration their weight as well as their bigger housing and thus surface exposed to the airflow whilst driving, a correct sized bracked will be needed. Guess I will decide based on the mokup, eventually design an own bracket if I decide to go that route.

I think the SDHQ bracket would be beefy enough to hold it. I just think those lights are going to be way too big. To each their own though. Good luck on your journey of figuring it all out.

If you're going to try running the LP6, I feel the @sdhq_offroad bracket is the only way to go. It's very beefy!

    LP6 - 4.2lbs
    XL80 (what I'm running on SDHQ brackets) - 2.45lbs

The LP6 is probably not too heavy but it is a little large for that location.

Yes, guess the proportions would not be matching...

Thank you all anyway for being very helpful, this is a real good community to be part of!

i think they are too big for the A pillar position. I run the XL80's and I think that's about as big as you can go before it gets in the field of view when driving.

Agreed. The xl80s are just right.
