Bought my truck new and have had it for exactly, 12 months and 6 days and the battery is dead. Seemed weak the last few days on startup and today it wouldn’t even beep with the fob. I knew the OEM batteries were shit, but 12 freakin’ months? At least it took the wife’s Honda 2 years. Am I correct in that the battery replacement warranty is good for 2 years or will I be ponying up for a battery 1 year into ownership?

My truck was very reluctant and slow to crank yesterday morning. It’s 8 months old and has 12k miles. Not even going to try a new Toyota battery with the reports I keep hearing. Not sure who makes a good battery these days.

But if they’re junk as this seems to be a common complaint I don’t want another junk one. I’d rather spend a few $hundred and know the problem is resolved.

About 2 years ago I skipped the warranty and bought a generic AGM from my local auto parts store (most brands will be the same) and it’s been problem free ever since

Exactly. I had mine replaced in that time frame from the dealer on both my Tundra and my daily driven Civic.

Keep in mind that the TrueStart battery that the Yota dealer sells is better than the crap batteries they throw in on the assembly line. Same with the crappy factory wipers. The dealer all weather Sightline wipers are pretty decent.

    My dad's T4R had the battery die at 500 miles. It's a 2021.

With that said, My 2020 Tundra had to be jump started yesterday. I'm at 34,6XX miles. Time for the warranty battery!

My factory wipers on 2 Tacomas and now Tundra have been great. On the Tacomas I bought refills from the dealer. I tried to do that for the Tundra but they said I had to buy 8. Passenger side is still OEM. I hate having to buy the whole assembly. What a freakin waste.

The dealer will have to put it on an extended tester for charge/discharge which takes an hour or two, but they'll replace it for free. If you can get 3 years out of the stock battery you're doing great.

They replaced my Tacoma battery with a "10 year" guaranteed one. Sounds great but the fine print is a heavily prorated warranty that effectively equals three actual years lol.

My stock OEM battery will be at 3 years next month and over 55,000 miles. Still works like new and Minnesota weathers are not kind to batteries.

OEM factory wipers didn't do well at all on my drive up to AK thru CAN with my 09 Taco. Weather conditions a bit different up there. First thing I did was get my oil changed and lose the crap ass OEM wipers....

True start batteries are made by interstate. That is what my friend from the Ira Toyota told me and he is parts manager. I have had 2 of them and no problems. Sold the Tacoma and camry when they were 4 and 5 years old. I will put one in the Tundra next year.

400 plus for a battery? Go to another dealer. Or buy a battery from some place else.

My 2016 OEM battery was still going strong 2 months ago, but I replaced it anyways with winter coming..

My battery died within 16 months. It took me 7 emails, 3 phone calls and 7 months to get paid back for having to replace my battery that was under Toyota warranty. Not sure it was worth the hassle.

They tested mine at the dealer. Failed on the test and they put a new battery in and I was on my way. 45 min tops. Must have been the dealer having issues.

they tested mine . It failed. But they said it wasn't under warrenty(one year) tried to charge me 400 for the tests and battery install. I said no thanks and went on my way. Phoned around with my vin and every toyota place told me 3 years 60000. I phoned them back and explained my findings. They said they needed to call corporate toyota and will call me back in 4 days...

Assuming Canadian warranty for 2020 vehicles, I found nothing there that excluded the battery...

The problem is that you can get a lemon in just about any product you buy. My OEM battery lasted almost 5 years before I replaced it with a Northstar AGM. I've seen complaints on them as well. I'd let Toyota replace my battery under warranty if it were me.

Agree, to do the battery warranty, but while the dealer stonewalls you about the warranty, you have a truck with a dead battery.

So my oem battery failed the test so I bought a true start from my friend at Toyota $129. Took 10 minutes to install, we will see how long it last.

In that case, you may need a new battery and a new dealer.

Agree. Except “oem” Toyota batteries seem to fail more frequently. Time is money to. I just replaced mine.

No I meant with the new one. The Tru Start. You said you'll see how long it'll last. Sounds like you're skeptical.

Toyotas have been having issues with batteries prematurely dying across multiple lines. My dad's 21 4Runner died at 350 miles. Tacomaworld is littered with them.
