Anybody try the Baxter Performance spin on oil filter adaptor?
I’m not a fan of the cartridge style filter my Tundra uses.

I have it with an engine oil cooler sandwich plate. Works great. I spoke with Baxter tech and the only issue they ever had were with loose sway bars coming in contact with the oil filter. I'm running a filter that is 3/4 of an inch shorter than the wix that they recommend. The sandwich plate is 1 inch thick and didn't want filter too low.

Was just looking at this over the weekend, didn't find to much information. Seems like it's a 50-50 decision. I personally was looking to see if anyone had any issues and I believe the spin on filter is better then a cartridge.

If I could of found a Lexus RCF cartridge remote oil cooler setup I would of kept it. I only went with Baxter to be able to run an engine oil cooler.

Gotcha. Although there are ways to make draining the oil from the filter
housing easier prior to its removal

What's the reason your not a fan? When I ran across the Baxter design, all I could think was, that only positive thing I could see is, that you can add an external oil cooler. Other than that, it's still filters the oil the same as the OEM cartridge filter. What I didn't like was the video on the site. He lies and says that Toyota cartridge filter suck because there is no drain back valve like a spin on filter. Apparently Kevin didn't do his research. The majority of all the cartridge filter always have oil. So his selling point of getting oil quickly to the engine is not a selling point. I personally didn't see the point of spending $280 just to have a spin on filter.

I personally like the fact that I can examine the filter cartridge at each OCI without having to cut open a can.

When I ordered that kit it came with a different oil filter cap wrench. It wasn't the one pictured. It sucks and gets stuck to the cap. Not a big deal since I have another one that works good. The other parts are great for the oil change.

Damn, good to know. Does the bolt replace the oil drain full time like the fumoto valve? Probably should have done a little more homework before I clicked order

What I think you are referring to as a "bolt" is not for draining the oil pan. That's a valve tool for draining the oil out of the oil filter housing. You screw it into the drain plug access and it pushes the ball valve in there "up". Then unscrew it to open the bottom portion which is it's valve to drain out the housing. It makes more sense once you use it.

I bought this kit 4-5 years ago and have no trouble with the filter housing wrench, but it does not look like the current one pictured. It has the cutouts for the housing, like this: https://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51W7nMcCl+L.jpg?w=650

The funnel is very helpful, the wrench I have works good, but honestly I don't use the filter housing drain tool. It is more of a pain to use than the little plastic tool that comes with all the filter cartridges. I just use the little plastic tool with a hose attached to it to drain into the pan.

Mine came looking exactly like the one in the Amazon link. Grey with a red section for the ratchet. I haven't had any issues with mine getting stuck.

My last change, I was able to leave the thin black skid plate on and was able to get a 3/8" ratchet up there to loosen the drain bolt, attach the provided drain hose and drain the oil out into a bucket and was even able to remove the entire filter all at once. For me, this kit makes the job so much easier. Not to mention the fumoto valve on the oil plan is also a nice addition.

EDIT: I only purchased mine around a year ago or so. So maybe they've changed a little bit since when @ejes bought his.

Like they said above, it's for the oil filter drain. I did also I stall a fumoto valve. It also makes it much easier and no mess.

Yeah I'm going to pick up a Fumoto valve as well. Seems like a no-brainer

I used to have fumoto and loved the convenience of it. The one on my truck started a very slow dribble. Never saw a puddle but it was always wet and I’d clean it after oil changes. Switched to valvomax. Only thing is you have to have adapter with you if you do an oil change, not a problem if you’re home. Zero leaks or spills.

+1 for the Valvomax and MotivX. Only thing I dislike about the Valvomax is you need the additional screw on thing + hose to open the ball valve, and if you lose that it becomes a very pricey drain bolt plug lol, but other than that I love the design and the drain hose thing. I bought the MotivX and a generic Amazon hose thing rather and it works perfectly. I skipped the blue funnel and just use the Valvomax and MotivX and didn't spill a drop when I changed my oil last time.

The worse part of the cartridge filters is getting the filter housing off, get a decent Toyota filter wrench that will fit over the “ears” of the housing and not just the lower portion, on the wife’s camery, the thing was on so tight I broke one of the “ears” off and basically ruined the housing as it caused a leak, junked the plastic housings and bought an aftermarket aluminum one, works great, for the tundra it actually has a longer cartridge, the center pipe is a bit longer so has to be moved to the new aluminum housing but easy enough.

Received my Motivx kit today, it is as pictured. Haven’t used it yet, but first Impression is that everything is super high quality. Will report back on fitment after I change my oil this weekend

First use report: this kit is absolutely worth the money. The fitment over the oil filter housing was right on the money, and the drain tube and screw in funnel were super nice to have. I accidentally snapped off a cheap extension in the center section of the oil filter wrench, but since the red area fist a 24mm socket, I was able to slap one on and spin the filter housing off with an air impact wrench (fkn thing was on there from the last oil change at Toyota). Anyways, if you’re on the fence about buying this kit, don’t be. It’s well worth it

No issue with the filter cap getting stuck in the filter wrench? Do you have a plastic or aluminum oil cap?
