In AZ our paint gets beat up. Mine is nearly 10yrs old and burning through clear coat (bought used) and am considering doing bed liner on the roof instead of repainting. Anyone else see this or think about the same thing? I didn't even notice the oxidization until i looked down on my truck in a parking lot.

I have seen folks bed liner an entire truck or Jeep.
One thing to know, bed liner is pretty heavy, heavier than you would expect. Not an issue for just a roof, but I bet it would add several hundred pounds spraying on the entire truck. There was someone here that I remember did their hood and it added considerable weight, making opening the hood a bit of a chore.

I had the hood & roof on my 2002 sprayed with Line-X last fall.

It did add noticeable weight to the hood, but it's not a problem and I am happy with the results.

My Super White 2007 doesn't have clear coat, so all I have to worry about is oxidation.
The bed on the '07 was sprayed about 3 years ago, and it extends several inches over the rail & tail gate. I have decided to have the rest of the bed & tailgate sprayed because Line-X captures dirt & dust, any moisture will cause streaking on the exposed paint. The sides of the bed and tailgate start to look like a faded Zebra if I don't clean it regularly.

I will not spray any part of the cab on my 2007, so I will end up with a Super white cab and a Line-X black bed.

    You just wait
Sincere question, not trying to be rude, how could bedliner add lots of weight? Wouldn't it just weigh as much as however much the container weighs when you buy it?

Thats what I was thinking as well. I can't imagine it is more than 10lbs per gallon, and maybe takes 4 gallons to cover a truck. I will be doing my roof this year, it takes less than half a gallon considering a gallon can do the whole bed.

Agreed... I had the bed of my 2002 work truck sprayed in '03 and it still looks great 18 years later.

Picture taken of the bed last year before I installed the commercial ARE cap. The thick rubber bed mat is really nice.

    IMG_2115 (2).jpg

This picture was taken after the cap was installed, and after the cap, hood and roof were sprayed.

What model of ARE cap is that? It looks somewhat taller than the offerings I see online?
Also, is it aluminum and how much does it weigh?

ARE DCU High Wedge... it is lighter than either of the fiberglass LEER caps that once were on this truck, I'll have to dig around for the exact weight.

I have a feeling it would really absorb heat, especially from the dark color. That's not something you want in AZ, especially in summer.

I have my whole truck coated in LINE-X and it's black. Yes it does add weight, but it does not get very hot. In comparison, I also have a black Volkswagen for my daily. I live in New Mexico and I can't even touch my black VW during summer. But the Truck with black line-x stays cooler. The part that is the hottest on the truck is the trim for the window. That little black trim will be ten times hotter than the line-x on the door. I even noticed that my cab doesn't seem to get as hot. The line-x does get hot, but not so hot you can't touch it. Honestly I can still climb all over my truck during summer without having to put gloves on. Now I did not get the clear coat finish they can do so that might be why my truck doesn't get hot. It's just the regular coating and after time the gloss goes away and it's turns a matte black color. My newer parts that I have had coated still have the shine to them and they are a bit hotter to the touch. This stuff was put on in 2010 and it's still good. I don't have any problems with it. If you want it to last like mine have a shop do it. The prep work is the most important, and if you don't set it up right, it's not going to last.

Where does a DIY'er get his hands on Line-X? Looked it up on Amazon and ebay without success?

I think you have to order it from the company, or dealers. I don't think you can just get it on Amazon.

Line-X is dealer installed as it requires preheating to product upon application. In a similar way
    to RhinoLiner.
