I searched but didn't see an answer.

I just picked up my 2022 Tundra platinum. Great truck and love it so far. I'm used to getting a spray in bed liner based on all my previous trucks i've had.

I'm a little confused... it seems like the Tundra came with a drop in plastic (not sure the material) bed liner but its bolted in... is this the actual bed material and not just a liner?

    Sorry for a stupid question.

the inside of the bed is not steel, it is composite just like the tacomas, don't know of a dropped in liner that is available for the 22, only options are the spray on and then a bed mat from the factory

do you have a picture of what you are talking about?

So the bed material that comes standard is the composite bed? To me it feels similar to a drop in bed liner.

Based on what you're saying, the spray on bed liner would go on top of this composite bed? If that's the case, doesn't seem like a need for a spray on liner.

Thanks for the response... just trying to wrap my head around how the truck came in stock form.

Correct…there isn’t a “need” for a spray in liner but the composite is so smooth that you will probably need something to prevent any loose item’s from sliding around.

Some choose a spray in liner (factory provided or probably aftermarket at some point). Most are doing some kind of a bedmat/bedrug however…even those with a factory spray-in liner like myself because it’s sandpaper rough.

Never had a bedrug... how are those in rainy weather? Do you have to pull them out to dry so they don't get moldy?

I agree that the composite bed is a bit too slippery but at least its not like sandpaper.

Never had a bedrug either so I will allow someone with that experience to comment.

I have the Toyota mat…works for me but reportedly not thick enough for others. I have seen recommendations for stable mats also that are supposed to be cheaper and thicker (farm supply stores)

I got the black armor bed mat. I really like it and decided to go with it over the Toyota version mainly because of it's thickness and weight.

Not sure if they're making a gen 3 version yet?

Its a composite bed like others have said. I had a Tacoma with that bed, it sucks. Sucks as in stuff slides everywhere. It will dent/scratch so I would do a spray-in bed liner or minimum a rubber mat.

I’ve had my Tacoma for 6 1/2 years and it’s been great for me.

I’m also not beating it and dropping engines in the back or anything most people would use it for. Camping, kayaks, moving, at most ‘normal’ light use but could see it get roughed up under heavy stress. It should be fine. Bed mat would probably help with some protection and things sliding around.

Bedrug is amazing. It feels like carpet and there's no need to remove to dry, water just filters through and drains. No mold or anything since it's made out of polypropylene, just don't drop gas or heated stuff on it - it'll deteriorate it or melt it lol. I've had one in my Tacoma for the last 5 years with my Vagabond Drifter camper.

Just as an FYI ... my Platinum was supposed to come with the bed liner and cover .. both were withdrawn from the build due to recalls. The dealer told me that the spray-in guys told Toyota not to spray the synthetic bed .. but Toyota knowing best did. Now apparently they are peeling .. thus the recall and no more spray-in liners for now. You might talk with the folks spraying your bed and get their opinion.

Based on my Tacoma, the bed is just about indestructible... but slippery. I'm going to pick up a bed mat to solve that problem.

    Thanks...

This is good news! Mine is peeling, hoping they recall this BS and give me a regular composite bed.

Now i know why mine wasn't delivered with the spray in bed liner. Dealer had no idea why but my delivered price was lower. lol

Bed is fine but will definitely check out a bed mat. Pricing is pretty varied and Toyota accessories doesn't list the 2022.

I would not suggest a spray on liner for there have been reports of this peeling off the composite bed. I would suggest a rubber mat for this works great on my son’s composite bed. Also, the bed rug, which I have in my ‘17 is fantastic. It’s actually plastic even though it looks and feels like carpet so can be all weather,

Your bed is composite already. I am guessing the composite material of the bed isn’t compatible with the spray-in bed liner. Like oil and water.

Yeah, I know it is and I’m hoping they will replace all the parts that they stupidly sprayed, I even asked them not to include it and they said I had no choice. Would be a huge hassle to peel it all off otherwise, it appears to be part spray, part sticker from what I can tell.

Oh, I understand now. Yeah, mine came as a port installed option so I had no say in it. Yours was probably the same. Mine is a 20 though so no issue. I would imagine it would be a bitch to get it off. And not to mention if they did prep the bed, it should have scratches on it.

Yep, I posted this in another thread, on a super hot day the tailgate one was peeling so bad that I just decided to try to rip it all off, and it came off in almost one piece. I had the composite bed on the ‘18 Tacoma and loved it. You are 100% right about apparent buff/scratch marks near the edges which I’m assuming was to make it stick better… However those are no worse than the regular scratches I would expect to get in the bed from hauling stuff around. The tricky part is that the actual bed floor and walls are all covered, with lots of different nooks and crannies etc. It almost seems like the floor is a sticker, and they blended it to a spray on the walls, but I can’t tell 100%. Would be a huge hassle to get off, but I am going to see what the dealership might be able to do, not getting my hopes up though.
