Hey guys, my 2017 didn't come with the bed rail system so I purchased it from Toyota and tried installing it today. It seems some of the holes in the bed aren't accepting the provided screws, I'm pretty sure I marred the threads on one of the screws trying to get it in and another won't even grab. Out of the 15 screws needed, 3 of them are having this problem.

    My questions are:
Can I re-thread the holes and try again with new screws?

Can I buy slightly larger self-tappers and use those?

Since it's only 1 screw on each rail that is having an issue Can I use the rails normally with out them and without worrying about them coming off?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I have 2 missing on mine and haven't had any issues. but if it worries you I would rethread it. Goodluck.

    Alot of them
Be careful, those screws are not that strong so don't overtorque them.

I pulled the problem ones and the threads are jacked, didn't even torque them down yet. I'll run them without those screws like saybng mentioned and see how it goes. Maybe down the line If it bugs me enough I'll re-thread. Thanks for the help guys.

I bought a Tap at an auto parts store for under $10 and chased all of mine before trying to screw into the holes and it was all that I needed.

Mine had Line-X in many of the holes so I did this as I expected that there would be problems with some of them.

If you have a tap & die redo the threads on both the screw and hole.

I was afraid I damaged the threads in the bed but, it was just Bedliner stuck in the threads. The tap worked like a dream and the size was 6mm-1.00 if that helps anyone?
    Thanks for the help!

mine is an 18 and no rail system either. Bedside holes are M6 X 1.0. Bought tap and have chased all threads. Bolts are shouldered and are Metric 10.2. Supposed to be stronger than grade 8 SAE. Planning eventually on trying the Unistrut DIY. Any way tap maybe the best to recover threads just do as we all do little forward and more in reverse. Anyway good luck.

I have a 17 and a spray in bed liner when I tried to install bolts went in but not all the way. Should I try the Tap? Also will it damage rail system if I try pulling rails off truck? Specifically the long points that hold in place while you put bolts in?

I don't understand the second half of your question but for the first half, using a tap did help but I wasn't able to get 2 bolts in even after that. So 2 of my rails are missing 1 bolt each.
