I'm a music junkie by birth and a tech junkie by choice. I can always upgrade various peripherals & components later... BUT i only want to upgrade the head unit now... and I only wanna do it once.

I'm looking to see the best out there currently.

    Personal Requirements:
    - Wireless CarPlay (This is #1)
    - Will work in 2021 Tundra w/JBL
    - Allows for future upgrades of amp and speaers

    Wants:
    - Big(est) Screen
    - Features that cut down on future costs when upgrading other components
    - Control other features of truck (seat warmers, HVAC, gauges, etc)

The Alpine 11 doesn’t seem to support CarPlay wirelessly which is my #1 wanted feature.

Most of the higher end Kenwood or Pioneer support both wirelessly. Shame too because the screen on the Halo is so legit.

That's too bad on the alpine not supporting wireless. I would've thought they would to compete with the other brand. 11 inches screen.

Having difficulty seeing the deal from their website. Being in Texas, el Cajon isn't around the corner.

    Hi,
I'm in SD too! Did you get this head unit? I'm thinking of getting this for the wireless apple CarPlay. Did you have to get any other modules/accessories to make this work with all the steering wheel controls?

    Thanks!

On my 18 Platinum I have the Pioneer WT8600NEX, and love it.

Wireless, utilizes steering wheel controls, 10.1” HD capacitive screen, made my system (new amp / speakers / sub) come ALIVE compared to factory head unit, and I feel looks SOOO much cleaner / refined than the Kenwood or Alpine.

Not sure of any mainstream manufacturer who’s screen controls HVAC, seats, etc. I believe you have go get one of the Android Dasaita type units, which is a big nope from me.

The Kenwood DNR1007XR is offers the best features out of any stereo. Yes you will need idatalink maestro rr2 and harness. The unit will display HVAC controls, and many other things. Better than Pioneer.

Good video describing the Pioneer and Kenwood. Similar and don’t think you can go wrong with either. Also looks like the JVC is basically the Kenwood without the volume control knob.

I been looking for a new HU for a bit now to compliment my complete Tech12v JL system but I’m not a fan of the floating screen I like the stock look thinking of the DMX957XR or anything in that area any of you guys have experience with that model or recommend something like it?

Did the DDX9907XR when it 1st came out, high resolution screen is nice, phone screen mirroring still has quirks even after a firmware update but don't watch video when I drive anyway.

All I know is that I bought mine for $1100 out the door. I also bought a DMX1057XR for $899 + tax at a different location.

Found a guy on YouTube reviewing the DDX9907XR looks good now im trying to compare and find what’s the difference with DMX957XR both are almost same price

Only thing I can see is the 9907 has a CD player and 957 does not

Did you install it yourself? Did you get the Maestro RR and all the other recommended connectors?

I did the install, done a few in the past so I felt comfortable with it.
Went with the Maestro RR2 for BT(idata is still in beta with it) and aux. functions(on/off my S8 from the steering wheel).
Only used the Maestro main harness and a antenna adapter, put the supplied KW GPS receiver in the dash and USB adapter didn’t work.
Gotta USB plug off Amazon, fits in stock location and working fine now.

Thank you for your reply I have done many radio installs but I have never done it on a newer vehicle I purchased my complete Speaker and Amp system from tech12v and installed it works good but I want to upgrade the stock radio I have been doing a lot of research on the HU and the Maestro stuff I’m a little confused if when I replace the HU do I use RCA jacks to my JL 5 channel Amp or do I use the stock wiring the way is connected now?

I got the top of the line system from Tech12v
    3 dash speaker
    Sail panel tweeters
4 door speakers with rear tweeters
2 12” JL Subs in their custom Tundra enclosure

New hu install, you will run rca from hu to your amp. Out from hu to in on the amp. Then the amp out to car speakers wiring.
