I have an 08 cm 4x4 that I just put bilstein 5100’s and spacer/block level/lift to get 3 in the front and 1 in the back at the end of 2019. It has the exact stance I want but rides rougher than I want on the road which is honestly where I spend 98.572% of my time unfortunately. I’m thinking the fox 2.5 with resi or the upgraded fox 2.5 with the dsc adjuster deal will give me the best pavement ride. Obviously im strictly talking about front end right now. Am I right or does anyone have a better suggestion or input on the fox’s? All help is much appreciated.

I ran the 5100’s on the lowest setting and moved to 6112’s, also on the lowest setting and noticed a huge improvement in ride. 5100’s rode like shit.

I’d imagine a Fox/King/ADS set up is even better.

If you are mainly onroad, Toytec is an option as well.

Do you have personal experience with the toytecs? I was looking at them too but couldn't find anyone to say either way.

I was planning to do a 2-3" lift myself, before life rearranged my priorities. From the research I did, the Fox TRD Pro's sound like they have the softest street ride. they have a longer and softer spring than your bilsteins, and while off-road capable they are less off-road tuned than an off-the-shelf Fox or King.

A coach builder shim kit will add an another inch of left, a Wescott would add 2.

I am trying to get all of my lift from the longer coils to get the best ride. Do you think the trd fox shocks would ride softer than the dsc set on the softest setting?

Yes. I have the Aluma 2.5 coilovers and the Boss rear shocks with remote resis and Toytec shackles. They ride great. There are quite a few members on here with Toytec setups. @Toytec Lifts is on here and can answer any questions that you have on their setups.

I have zero experience here. my guess would be yes, as the spring is softer, and the damping has been tuned by Toyota specifically for good onroad manners.

Go to a Toyota dealer and take a test ride in a TRD Pro. See if you like it...

custom valved fox or kings 2.5s are your best bet. check out accutune. I have my rear Fox 2.5 with no DSC at all tuned by them for my truck and it rides smooth just like my Raptor did, if not better.

King will likely out do Fox for on road if your goal is comfort. King uses 600lb coils whereas Fox uses 700lb.

If you’re looking for a more tight and sporty ride, then Fox will probably be better.

All that aside, if you’re only on road don’t rule out the smaller options. Falcons are just under 2.5” but use factory coils, that should translate to a nice ride. 5100s are a good option as are Eibachs. Fade from running 2.0 won’t be something that occurs with daily on road use, neither will failure from the old “2.0 is too small for our trucks”. Hard to believe with people beating the living crap out of the old 2” OMEs and that Toyota shocks are even smaller and last many years.

    Good luck.

I have the 5100’s now and it’s rough enough where my wife doesn’t want to ride in it. I’m going back and forth between the fox and king. Wondering if the fox heavier spring would be the better option since a slightly heavier front bumper is also in my plans.

I thought about this as well but didn’t want to step up to the 6112’s and still want more.

That’s the game, right?! Haha My truck is just a family/rzr hauler. Sees little to no dirt, so for street driving and a little bit of dirt road to park the trailer, the 6112’s are great for $700. Like I said, immediate noticeable difference over the 5100’s, which I felt were enormous pieces of shit. It was actually hard to pull the trigger on another set of Bilsteins.

I’m not sure the extra $1000 or so for a higher end shock is worth the squeeze for my type of use.

I'm with @Tundra234 , big fan of the Toytec Aluma series.. I have the 2.0 Coilovers front and the 2.0 shocks in rear with 1.5 blocks instead of shackles and the ride is amazing!! Better than factory imho.
Whatever you choose, will ride smoother than previous set-up. Good luck.IMG_20201208_154611.jpg IMG_20210313_084129.jpg

What shims are you talking about for the front and you didn’t go with their 3 leaf pack?

Do you have 1 or 2 shims on the front? I thought that adding shims to the front CO was not advised. I have the same and thought about adding shims.

Would be no different than adding shims to a non adjustable coilover.

I provided a lot of input on 6112s in a thread a week ago. Just like you, I cannot stand the digressive valving of Bilsteins and don’t like the bouncy ride. I just picked up a pair of Fox 2.5 with DSC over King primarily because I want more adjustability with high AND low speed compression instead of just high speed like with King. The shocks I picked up were missing mounting hardware, which I’m sourcing right now and should be able to install in about 2 weeks. I can report back. Just wanted to chime in that you are not the only one and I think you are on the right track.
