2000 Green Tundra 4 wheel drive SR5 ext. cab.. well loved truck with 107,000 original miles and all mantainence
New sprayed in Bed liner, diamond back aluminum bed cover 1800 lb. load rating. New 2022 Kenwood navigation stereo system with 900 watts RMS power. New under back seat 2x8'' sub enclosure with 2 JBL subs. All new Kicker speakers in front and back doors. New struts with front leveling shocks. Differential drop kit. Brand new Toyota brand front drive axles.
    Hi everyone.
I have been looking into putting an exhaust system on my 2000 SR5 4wd ext. cab Tundra. I have done everything else on this truck. I have a Spector cold air intake and it sucks some air. I think a nice exhaust system would let the engine breath better.
I have noticed that a true dual exhaust is rare on the first gen.
I have been looking at the Flow master American thunder 71425.
Anyone have a great success story on finding the right exhaust. Good sound, good flow and maybe a little extra fuel economy?
    Thanks KBC37

You won't likely gain a lot from exhaust unless you install headers too. The stock system is not too bad on these trucks. The y pipe looks restrictive but replacing it gives negligible gains if any. The giant muffler is the only part worth replacing really. Find a muffler you like and get rid of the giant stock muffler, have an aftermarket one put in its place. Leave all the stock pipe alone.

I recommend a Spintech pro street muffler. I've had one for a long time and haven't heard a muffler I like better on these trucks. A few others here have them too.

Edit- a few sound clips. Put headphones on

When you see things like "added 10hp" be wary. That doesn't necessarily mean peak hp, it can be that it added 10hp anywhere on the power band. Stacking hp on parts doesn't really work.

I gained 10 horses in my head with a tailpipe delete. But that spintech sounds nice. I remember a sound comparison video, but I didn't know some of you guys had them @Darkness

I have one, @jImmegart has one, @FirstGenVol has one, @Casper421 has one but he's afraid to install it :boink: might make his truck too fast.

lol - I don't think @Casper421 even has to take it to a shop to get it in. Good to know, however on the spin crew.

Funny timing for this thread. My wife drove my truck earlier to work. My office is almost directly above where I park in the garage. She started it and it sounded so good hearing it from outside the truck. It's not too loud either.

Definitely ask these 1st gen aficionados. And also call Keith at Dirty Deeds. He can answer exhaust questions and get you some hp in the low range.

Guaranteed to sound super good coming out of the camping area at Sedona. I gave the multi gens a run for their money in October.

Sooo, it’s a nice steep grade out of camp, with a decent straight away, that curves left and a little straight and then a right, then a short left, all within ear shot

The other day at a light, this old man in a convertible Mercedes was next to me, and pantera “respect” was on the radio, for some reason I felt the need to crank the radio. The light turned green and we both nailed it, but of course a stupid jeep got in front of him as I squeezed by! In the mirror I saw his old lady slap him in the chest as I imagined her saying “Darryl will you stop it!!”

My Tundra won't quite do it, but you know when another driver will start to telegraph their intentions with spacing or lane changes? The "I want to get ahead of someone, anyone" posture. The boy's SW Gen 4R wrecks them.

The gearing and engine call for bigger tires. It's stupid. The front gets almost weightless when you hit it.

I can't believe my mom was driving this thing for the last 16 years before giving it to my son when she quit driving. I can drive it smoothly, but it's not a no brainer. Jumps hard, brakes hard.

A guy named v8 toilet did a lot of exhaust dyno testing on tundrasolutions. He found that only the stock piping made sense. Spintech muffler made more power. You aren’t gonna feel 10hp. You wont get more mpg just from exhaust that will offset the price of the system
