Best rattle can bed liner?

What is the best lasting and easy to use spray can bed liner in your experience?

My tube steps are looking pretty flat and weathered, so I am looking for recommendations on something to spruce them up and make them look better to match my nice truck.

No powdercoat or professional applied coatings...looking for low cost. If I was going to spend a few hundred dollars I would just replace them with flat style running boards.

Take a look at U-Pol Raptor Black Urethane Spray. Not super expensive and easy to use.
You will need an air compressor.

 

I used one of the cheaper spray cans from Autozone to spray the side steps mounting brackets. I bought my steps used and the brackets had a little rust. I sanded them down a bit and sprayed the bed liner on them. Just over 2 years and they are holding up great, but they don't see the same abuse as the actual steps. The cans are cheap enough it's worth a shot. Where are you located? I got my father in law some generic black steps for xmas about 2 years ago for just under $200.

 

In VA. Yes I have seen plenty of step I like in the 200-300 range. However, not ready to replace the current ones yet. No rust, strong...but want them to look better since they don't match the nice shiny truck.

 

Yeah, I'd say it's worth a shot spraying them. Maybe even try calling a bed liner shop and see what they'd charge to do it for you just to see.

 

FYI.... you can also roll on that raptor liner... most of the bedliner brands can be rolled on

 

It's not a rattle can, but raptor liner is great.
I bought it to coat my 6x10 sxs trailer and it done great!!!

 

Rustoleum truck liner. Coated my sliders in it and am fully impressed.

That's an entertaining video. Hopefully some more people can give the OP and myself more opinions of what they like. Would plasti dip products be any good for a quick fix that could last a few years?

I’m currently painting mine w/ Rust-Oleum Textured. Great non-slip surface. Looks factory. I’m at 3 coats, ending up with 5 coats. Awesome stuff. I’ve done 1 so far & it looks new. I’ve used this spray paint many times, holds up well. The hardest part is cleaning. I have 3 step bars.

 

This is my favorite. It’s not super rough just has a nice texture to it.

Do you guys know if the Rust Oleum roll-on is any different/better than the spray? I'm gonna do my running boards as soon as it warms up a little.

 

Follow up question----I can paint the plastic step pads with this stuff too?

 

The roll in will be coarser in my opinion. The spray has very fine grit.

 

I would say as long as the product specified plastic and you prep it well you should be ok.

 

Not in a can, but Amazon has Liner xtreme kits. Come with everything you need but an air compressor.

 

Being in the Midwest, the salt used over the winter can be brutal. It took it's toll on my running boards, causing a good amount of rust. Last week I was able to take a wire wheel to all of it, then brushed on POR-15 to keep it in check. I then brushed on the rust-oleum bed liner. I wasn't happy with the look because it left brush lines, so I went over it again with a 4" roller I picked up at Sherwin Williams. Turned out much better and I'm pleased with the finish.

You probably could. I painted around them with a foam brush and then rolled it to give it a smooth finish.
