best Side Steps for door-ding protection?

Bought a 2018 Crewmax about a week ago, and it had the OE, black, tube side steps.
The tube steps do Not extend beyond the door panels ... in fact the steps are a couple of inches narrower than the widest part of my doors .. no protection against other cars denting my doors.
Secondarily, the tube steps are rather close & tight to the body, so stepping onto the steps frequently ends up kicking the lower body panels.

Are there aftermarket steps that will stick out beyond body (enough to protect against door dings), require no drilling, and look reasonably OEM/stock?

What are some good brands I should look at, nowadays ?

Might even consider a "running board" style ... but probably not a "stirrup/hoop" style or Rhino "Dominator" style

I have a mid-90s Chevy K1500 Tahoe, installed aftermarket Smittybilt tube steps, and those do a decent job of protecting from door dings ... but I have no clue whether the new Smittybilt build quality is the same, or whether they would stick out far enough on a Crewmax.
    TIA.

    Sliders would probably protect better.

I really dont think any steps are going to protect against door dings from most cars...they would have to stick out too much and just look silly.
I have RCI steps and am very happy with them.

Thx. After lots of researching & contacting various Mfrs, those Tyger steps seem my best chance at preventing door dings.

Not sure the Tyger steps are going to prevent door sings, they may prevent some. Body molding will actually protect from door dings. There are many brands and styles, available at local parts house or order on line.

Yup. I think the rb20’s are probably the widest steps I’ve seen.

6inch lift with 37’s will prolly do well paired with some frame sliders lol

And not all frame sliders require drilling or welding I believe sdhq makes a bolt on pair

My Tyger steps stick out just far enough for most vehicles to hit them and not my door. Unless it is a truck with some lift? I try to park away from people anyways. Good exorcise and plus I love my truck . Good luck D5CECDAF3-6C3E-476A-9604-4056C845BA98.jpg

I went with go rhinos rb20's for that exact reason. really debated on sliders but these are easier steps for my family.

Large price difference on Rhino RB20 for bedliner finish vs powder coat ($550 vs 430 @ Amazon). Is the powder coating "textured" enough to minimize risk of slipping , when the steps are wet?

i believe there is enough grip for my use (Idaho weather snow, rain, mud, dirt ). I felt that the texture would tear the backs of my legs when i'm wearing shorts haha. You don't realize what you rub against until it feels like sand paper.

Reading around, i found out that the liner doesn't hold up for too long so I went and got the powdercoated version

I like my GoRhino RB20's much more than I thought I would. Great protection, easy for kids and wife, and cheap. The look is growing on me too.

X3 or X4 for the Tygers. I've had them on for about 6 months. Have tested them with our Toyota Matrix and Mazda 5. They may not protect against larger SUV's or Trucks. But they will give you some protection against door dings from most cars.

The Tygers also provide a nice big step that feels very sturdy.

My 2011 DC cheap stock (oem) steps stuck out just enough to protect against car doors but most trucks sit too high to protect against.

I currently have the RB10's from Go Rhino. The are similar to the RB20's but a bit more narrow, but they still provide ding protection. As others have stated, sliders are great for door protection, but on my truck I do not need that. This truck is for towing and hunting.

The RB10's provide a great step into the cab and offer door protection. Another nice feature... they also provide additional splash protection from the KO2's that are just a bit outside the fenders (+25 offset).

Don't forget if you want to save a few bucks always PM @eccracer104 He's been awesome at getting me some great prices on my mods via AutoAnything.

    good luck in your search...

I was going to go with the bedliner but was discouraged by all the bad reviews of peeling so I went the cheaper route with the powdercoat. No slipping whatsoever when the pc is wet. Love them so far. We will see how they hold up. $330, can’t go wrong in my book.

Looks great! They sit out just far enough

^ The PC finish still offers grip as @Borgs said. Another thing you can do if you're concerned is a little bit of skateboard grip tape where you need it, definitely won't slip on that!

OEM boards, only got them so my kids could step anywhere and get in without help. I noticed that it blocks other car doors.
