Looking to see if anyone can recommend a good product for cleaning exhaust pipes. Just purchased the MagnaFlow Street Series Cat-Back Performance Exhaust System from @JeffMac out of the Market Place yesterday. I would like to clean up the pipes as well as the tips before i install it on the truck. The parts I am looking to clean are mostly all Stainless Steel. Thanks in advance for your help.

ditto above and some dawn soap, but the pads will make some marks. Other than that you could use stainless steel cleaner, like for appliances, grills, etc and a microfiber towel to avoid scratches.

If is it really nasty, could also try oven cleaner, but dont let that sit too long.

I put some brasso on my bassani pipes and thought it did well, the muffler and tips polished fair, but the pipes didnt really. Mofthers mag/aluminum works for the tips when i wash the truck, but its not something i do every time.

thought i had a pic, but i dont.

P21S polishing soap. I use it for exhaust tips, as well as the stainless range hood in my kitchen.

Are you trying to clean dirt and grime or surface rust?

'Flitz' Brand metal Polish is a really good one . . . so is 'Simichrome' which is made in germany . . . those are the 2 best that I have found.

Both actually. There's a lot of dirty and grime, but there are also some spots of surface rust

I do not know, I will have to try out your magnet theory

I did happen to buy some of the Brasso polish. I will report back and let everyone know how it did. Just waiting for a little warmer weather here in the North East.

Hard to go wrong with Flitz . . . it's food grade (if that means anything), and if I remember correctly (at the time) it was the only polish recommended by Smith & Wesson to remove oxidation/rust safely from their 'Blue'd' barrels. Hard to mess anything up with it, but it still really works good.

I was a Welder for quite a few years in another lifetime lol.
If it's 304 Stainless Steel it's non ferrous and much stronger, less prone to scratches and more chemical resistant. 409 Stainless steel won't last as long as 304. You shouldn't use any harsh chemicals or abrasive on either. There's lots of other types too. Some exhausts have a coating on them such as aluminized steel or Zinc.
See if you can find out what it's made of then look up the best way to look after it.
You should also never use anything that you previously used on Ferrous Steel as you can impregnate the Stainless with more Iron and cause it to rust. I mean like sandpaper, emery cloth or grinding wheels etc. Unless you're cutting or modifying it you probably wouldn't do that anyways.
