My 2002 Limited Access cab steering wheel is peeling and looks hideous. Options are: new wheel on eBay if you can find one, Wheelskins or Loncky. Loncky looks the best but does anyone have one on a 1st gen? Thanks.

Here is a wheelskins on my old 2004. I installed it in 2006, and these pictures are from 2020 at 216,000 miles. The paint didn't start peeling on the top until my wife drove it a lot with a cast on her wrist.

No doubt the Loncky looks better!

The good things about the Wheelskins:
    1) Install is simpler and doesn't require wheel removal.
    2) Time required is a couple of hours, vs 4 for the Loncky.
    3) Made in the USA, not China

The extra time and effort for the Loncky can pay off with a better looking final product though. I don't think either is a bad choice.

I can’t seem to figure out if you can get the Loncky in that stone color or whatever color my interior is.

i was going to go with the Loncky but didn’t want just basic black so I went with the wheelskin, super happy with it so far and quality seems to be top notch.

I'd be curious to hear what 912 says about how long his took, but from what I've read elsewhere, it's only a 4hr job with the Loncky if you try to do it with the steering wheel installed. You can supposedly get it done in 60-90 minutes if you pop the wheel off.

They ask you to reach out to them on colors, but I don't remember if I read that at their presence on scAmazon, fleaBay, or what. You can always contact through their website, but you need to look at Sequoia products to see 1st gen style I think: https://www.lonckyauto.com/

I'm normally the guy on here that's, like, "buy American!" but this is one of those times when the company has a reputation, actually has an outlet, supposedly stands behind their product. I dunno.

Depending on your color, I may be able to sell you my old one.

I bought an OEM leather-wrapped charcoal grey one out of a 4R. But the more I think about it, I kinda want the perforated.

Yes? It depends on year whether or not it's easy and your clock spring will support it. And you'd need the new airbag or at least airbag cover.

I don't remember when the steering controls became a stock option but have it stuck in my head it's '04.

I wish I could remember where I read - maybe on TundraSolutions? - that clock springs in the last couple of years of 1st gen were pre-wired for audio controls.

But don't take my word for it. I'm getting old and that memory is not working like it used to. Too many hits to the head over the years.

It might be 05/06 that are pre-wired. Mine is.

As stupid as it'll sound, it was a prerequisite for my truck. I was adamant about not buying a truck without steering controls, I use the shit out of them, and that requirement limited me to the latter half of the generation. I just can't recall whether I saw any '04 with steering wheel controls. I saw '05 and '06 with them.

2003 and 2004 Limited trim has the steering wheel controls, but the SR5 do not.

My Loncky took somewhere between 2 and 4 hours, hard to remember now. Totally worth it tho! I took the wheel off and found that to be helpful.

I added steering wheel controls to mine. Mine wasnt prewired but the clock spring had room to add them. I soldered part of a harness into it from a sequoia and ran the wires. Pretty easy actually. There are details in my truck thread linked in my signature. [here: https://www.tundras.com/threads/200...pic-heavy-little-ot.75017/page-4#post-2226710 ] Happy to help if I can, feel free to PM.
