I just picked up my dream truck (2018 Tundra Crewmax), and as a bass head naturally my first MOD to the truck is the sound system…specifically adding subs. I’m coming from a versa with a 12” kicker L7 SB in the trunk, and I have loved that thing. However I always notice that my friends’ 2 10”s in his car sounded better for rock and music with faster thumpy bass, so I’m thinking of going the 2 10”s route for my truck, hoping to gain some of the speed for rock while maintaining good low end long notes.
My 2 considerations at this time are
2 Kicker Comp RT’s in a ********* ported shallow box
    Or
********* loaded setup (same box but includes 2 10” ID10v4 subs)
Wondering if anyone has any experience with either the subs, ********* box, or both? If not, does anyone have any other affordable behind the backseat options (both options I am currently looking at are roughly $800)?
I also am considering just doing ********* system 1B package which includes everything you need for a full sound system (the second sub option I mentioned plus the corresponding amp, all door speaker/ tweeters with speaker amp, and all hardware required for install for roughly $2K) since I am also probably going to upgrade the door speakers, so if anyone has any experience with that system I would love to hear about it. It’s been hard to find any reviews on ********* subs or the whole system…so I’m hoping there is possibly someone on here who could lmk what’s up?
Sorry I know it was a long one, thanks in advance to anyone who offers advice!

I’d like to stay around the $1500-$2000 range, obviously wanting to keep the price as low as possible. There is other stuff I’d like to do to the truck, so any money I can save on the sound system is just more money for other stuff…however there is a reason this is the first thing I am doing. I love my music and having a great system in my truck is super important to me,especially being a bit of a bass head so the 1.5k-2k price range is flexible, but don’twant to go too much higher than that

What are you willing to spend on subs?

I wouldn't buy TT anything and I'm talking from personal experience.

Their underseat sub was utter garbage and their customer svc was worse.

Gotcha, yeah I’ve heard a lot of mixed reviews about them so I wasn’t sure. Also just reading around on other forums here I’ve seen a lot of people talking about Tech12V setups…not sure if anyone has experience with their systems?

I don’t really have a price range for the subs themselves, more so the entire sound system all together. But I guess around $700-$900? Still trying to decide between 2 10’s or 2 12’s as well so that makes pricing things out a bit harder as well I’ve only ever had small cars before so I’m not sure what will sound the best in a big ole tundra

Like you experienced with your friends system, 10's will recover faster and a little punchy, and are great for rock. 12's should play deeper bass. Generally 12's are better all around subs, but box builds are important too. Ported vs sealed, size etc. I've had everything from 8's-15's through the years. My favorite is 15's in a sealed box, but obviously you need the space.
For the past 10 or so years, I really prefer balanced sound quality systems over insane bass.
For the record my Tundra still has the totally stock sound system (it sucks), so I have zero experience in doing a Tundra system.

Also Crutchfield.com is great for research. A little pricey, but I've bought lots of stuff from them over the years because they are great to deal with and they will not hassle you on warranty and returns.

A LOT of us have tech12volts gear. James is a Tundra audio expert and has the best customer service bar none.

Audio Frog is great stuff. The owner used to with JBL and was responsible for some of their best.
Sometimes people think JBL sucks because of what their vehicles sound like off the lot, but high end JBL is amazing stuff.

Yeah I definitely want a balanced system for 80-90% of the time. But when I’m with friends or driving to the gym and want to blast rap or rock, I want to feel it in my chest starting to sound like 2 12’s might do best for my situation? Having the better lows from a 12” sub, and the speed/punchy-ness having 2? Or does that not make sense

The two 12's will be great if there is enough room for a proper box to allow for the required air space. If not, then the 10's would be better.
You need to figure out which box you will use or build, and what air space will be. It is super important.

I had one. it sounded good, was extremely well built but those speakers really shine in a ported box, so i got the same speakers as the stealthbox but in a ported enclosure from....you guessed it....tech12volt.

Nice. I'm going to probably see what boxes he has myself now. I used a Stealthbox in a previous Silverado system I did, loved it, but have zero experience on a Tundra. The Tundra Stealthbox is $1500 for the double cab, which wasn't is stock for a long time, but is now. So, far I've managed to not buy it, haha.
