Yes I looked in the search. That's a nightmare for a 72 yr old man. Time is precious. Thanks

Depends on your needs. For me? I went with a cap with full carpet kit. I love having the entire bed and cap as lockable, clean and dry storage. I have a trailer available if I need to haul larger items.

Don't get a BAK MX4. Mine leaked from day one and even the replacement is still leaking. Quality sucks

The thing that I would be cautious about is if you are using a full cover and the truck is sitting, it is an open invitation for rodents and squirrels. They love to chew on the soy based wiring.

Been looking for a used cap for the same reasons. Can't do carpet though. Don't want to clean animal blood out of it.
Which model do you have? They are so stupidly expensive.

There's a used ARE CX in my area for $4100.

I think my only requirement would be a fold up front window in the cap (instead of a slider) to take advantage of the crewmax rear window for hauling longer items without sticking out of the back.

Not sure I understand what wires a rodent can chew in the bed, or how they would even get in there with a full cover, besides chewing through a canvas top.

OP, I went with a hard topper like I have had on all my trucks. Wouldn't be nearly as useful to me without one.

After having a bed rug in my first truck, I have opted for just a OEM bed mat on every truck since. The rug was just too difficult to clean with all the dog hair, dirt and road dust etc...

One must have for me is a windoor on at least one side of the topper. This makes accessing the entire bed much easier.

That's really expensive for a used topper, at least around here in Colorado.

I bought my Leer for about $3,700 which included a few options like a windoor, cargo hooks, pet screen on the one sliding window and led lights.

Great idea for the folding window. I absolutely would have included that, but I have a DC and no full lowering rear window. The only thing that a CM has that I wish I did.

If you live Winter i recommend a cover that sits on top with NO Drain Holes to freeze up.
I am very happy with mine after 6 years it still looks great.
It is very easy to remove 5 mins and one person can do it.
Putting it back on takes a few minutes more.
Extang Solid Fold 2.0 Tonneau Cover.
It may not be the most stream lined looking (flush with the bed) but it works.
With the bed locked, thieves can only get in with tools. At that point there all vulnerable.

    edit
oops - will leave my comments in case someone looking for bed cover.
I did search out the full cover I had a leer on a previous vehicle and it worked great but they are stupid expensive now.

Not a bed cover. A full cover. Like for storage.

Mine has the slider and the fold down front window. The bottom carpet comes out easily for cleaning, or to avoid animal blood, grease etc. could replace it with a runner mat instead even

ps- oh and I got lucky when I bought this truck it came with the color matched cap.

My BAK X4 Revolver leaks too near the tailgate and at the head near the window. The worst part is that it doesn't sit perfectly flush on one point. I also had them send a full warranty replacement. It was enough of a PITA to install that I just gave up on trying to get another one. Plus, the BAK X4S has these stupid super weak plastic tabs that guarantee to fall off without mods. Not impressed with BAK products at all.

My buddy has a Diamondback cover which is really nice, but some people may not like how they open/access.
