Hey y'all .. So I am looking to buy a used Toyota Tundra to pull a 31' travel trailer that is around 9,000 lbs. Give or take. I was driving a ford that towed great but unfortunately had an 18 wheeler run me off of the road and totalled my truck. Mybiyfriend suggested I come to a forum to get advice! Thank you! :)

    A bunch
For 9k lbs go 3/4 ton. Gas engine will be fine, no need to buy a diesel unless you want to. I'm partial to GM HD trucks, but the other 2 aren't really much different.

Definitely a 3/4 truck. Hopefully toyota makes one soon, but for now you’re looking at a big 3!

Get the truck you can afford, I've seen people buy trailers and then take them out less than 5 times a year..

9k is really getting up there in weight. What’s the tongue weight of your TT?

Where you are towing, there isn’t a lot of mountains, so that’s in your favor.

I put this together, and it’s a bit long winded and plenty of videos, but could me helpful in your decision making process.

If you have anymore questions, just ask. Best forum I have ever had the privilege to be a part of.

@ColoradoTJ ... YOU ARE AWESOME!! Thank you so much! The TT tongue weight is 958 lbs & 6620 lbs dryweight for the TT. I live in TX so no mountains. I got the Trailer because I'm the "tiny house" living thing and actually love it but have it in storage because of the wreck .. I say 9000 lbs just to be safe ... Ectra weight to pull because I'm living in it :)

Thank you for the kind words. We really try to be honest about the capabilities of the Tundra, which is rather impressive. I knew were you were posting from, just didn’t want to announce it publicly unless you did.

Where you will be maxed out already is your tongue weight right from the word go. A double cab would be best to maximize capacity's instead of the Crewmax.

My camper is a 28’ TT toy hauler and it was a bit much for my ‘12 CM Tundra. It did really well in most situations until I hit the big passes in CO.
