I just noticed a sticker on my overhead sunglass holder stating this vehicle transmits data to Toyota including location...press SOS to disable? WTF...

Ever wonder how your phone knows to send you random ads during your web browsing for things you talked about with a buddy the day before?

Do you own an Alexa or similar product? Ring cam?

    Use social media?

Your privacy, as was mentioned already was exchanged for the guise of security years ago.

One of my sisters gave me this handful of family history last week.IMG_0899.jpgAfter a little bit of research I determined that although they mostly range between 50 and 100 years old they have no collector value. Mostly from the late ‘20’s to mid ‘30’s. Mass produced middle class cutlery.
I’ll clean em up and pass em on to my kids.

Imagine if you will, a world where everyone said no and to having all our full privacy rights. Companies would have a difficult time making products that would suit the masses and things would be all over the place because one product for one household would be vastly different from the next.

but I agree, once the perceived enemy was gonna come into our towns and neighborhoods and eat our children and that one person said yes we need more security and it’s ok to collecting our data the door was already opened

I guess the Nissan sequoia is big enough for sexual activity. Are the sensors triggered by rhythmic movements, squeals or odor?

I’m confused; are you advocating that we should keep eating our children or are you suggesting that we should stop?

Yup, that's what happens when Toyota receives subsidies for their vehicle builds from G00gle. Big bro no knows everything about what you do with your vehicle.

Wow, this kinda went off the rails...my main concern, probably not valid is they would say "your fuel trims went way up there for awhile and now you have a knock in your engine...you must have had a piggyback tuner...no warranty for you"! The warranty Nazi lol...

It's called "analytics." And it is HUGE business gathering data on you and then selling it.

Mrs. McGov. manages smallish commercial properties. They were approached by a data company to lease a small spot on the roof of one of their small buildings to place a small dish that gathers cell phone "information" from the immediate area. They were willing to pay $30,000/month for those 25 square feet.

I love how Toyota can collect data on me remotely via cellular, but want me to pay $15 a month to start my truck or unlock my doors remotely because it uses the same cellular services.

Daughter worked for Google in UK. Google is Incorporated outside the USA so not bound by our laws. Google maintains files of every web site hit from people who use there browser.

We had PC technology by the late 80's allowing us to track many things via Sat links. Privacy is a thing of the past. Big Brother is always looking over your shoulder.

Minor soapbox: As a society, we said "yes" to paying as you go for things vs outright owning them (I.E. the "[BLANK] as a service" business model) when 95% of people stopped buying movies and music and opt'd for platforms like Netflix, Spotify, etc. Microsoft has been doing it with Office 365 for a long time. Most people don't own an "Office 2000" or "Office 2010" software suite anymore. Most people pay their $15 a month and don't own any actual software. This is the "SaaS" model that. You can still buy the standalone Microsoft Office software but try finding it on Microsoft's website. They bury it deep enough where it's a bit of a hassle to find.

"As a service" business models existed long before streaming but streaming services (the proliferation of platforms like Netflix & Spotify, specifically) is often pointed out as when it permeated across all socio-economic levels of society to become the zeitgeist of how younger generations want to spend their money.

Pivoting back to vehicles: Eventually, I think it'll get tougher and tougher for accessory companies, like standalone remote start makers (Viper, Compustar, etc), to operate in the consumer market as more vehicle owners opt for these "as a service" options via mobile apps. I.E. Paying $15 a month for remote start in an app vs spending $600 for a remote starter with a 2.4ghz transmitter and a mile of range.

Side note: You don't have to read this in a Dale Gribble voice. I'm not saying it's not a conspiracy theory, and I'm not intending to be that old man complaining about "how things are going downhill." It's just the factual trend that is happening with modern business models.

Side side note: After all of that said above, I do pay the $15 for remote start on the app because it includes vehicle tracking. It's basically a poor man's "Lojack." I mentioned it to my local insurance agent, and he added an additional vehicle security discount to our policy that saves ~$100 on our 6-month insurance premium. So, in my situation when you include the insurance savings, it's a wash plus I get some extra features. If you have a local insurance agent that you can actually speak to and/or visit to show them the app...you might be able to get some savings. TBH, that happened totally by chance when I was showing him my new (at the time) truck. haha.
