Has anyone had to do a warranty claim with Bilstein? Noticed last nite that I have a leaky 5100 rear shock. Less than 3 years old. Any other equivalent brands out there?

I cannot help you in regards to the Bilstein warranty. I believe some weeping is normal but you should definitely contact them.

Heres my take on equivalent brands... Bilstein makes very good shocks however Eibach makes an even better shock for a few bucks more. In my opinion Eibach should be the standard for that price point NOT the 5100’s. The long story short of it is Eibach has different valving which equates to a better ride.

Here’s a review I did on 4Runners.com. Obviously take it with a grain of salt because it’s not a Tundra review and I don’t Offroad.

I am sure many here are not going be happy with my opinions but there is a noticeable difference. And if I do shocks again Eibach will be my first choice (entry level shocks).

Not getting anywhere with this. Was told by reseller it was a Bilstein issue, then told by Bilstein its a Reseller issue, then contacted reseller again and was told its not there problem...…………………… Eibach here I come. Frustrating when you pay for what you think is a better product only to get screwed in the end.

One of my 6112s started leaking less than 6 months after installing. Contacted bilstein who wanted pics and then blamed everything else than the shock leaking, like road debris. Finally they told me to contact the seller as they don’t take direct warranty returns. Contacted seller and started process all over with pictures and explanation. Finally got an RMA, but when I realized it would probably take forever and I couldn’t be without my truck for long, since you have to mail the bad shock in first to get them to evaluate it and then mail you a new one if approved, I decided to just buy a new shock myself.

Bilstein’s warranty process is awful and from my experience their customer service is too.

WOW. Not very good Bilstein! Racking my brain on which brand for my kit and was leaning hard to Bilstein 6112/5160. Maybe the high dollar brands deserve another look. Warranty support is very important when your spending thousands of your hard earned dollars. Not to mention your free time if installing yourself.

Most warranties are the same. Either rebuild yourself or let the truck sit while you wait. With the price of the 5100’s your better off just buying new ones. Icon is the same if you want it repaired under warranty.

You’re really trying to warranty claim a 3 year old, $90 shock? Even the highest of high end brands is going to tell you the same thing.

Bilstein does have a limited lifetime warranty. Why not try it and spend that $90 on pizza and a movie?

I guess what I hoped is bilstein would see the pictures and then send me a new shock at my expense. Then I send the old one to them. Once they verify in person that it was bad, they would then refund my deposit on the new one. Or at least give me that option. That way if I never mailed the old one back or it wasn’t defective, they aren’t out anything as I put a deposit in it.

What I really didnt like was their lack of customer service. I’ve emailed icon before to ask a question and they were a lot more helpful.

what part of "lifetime warranty" don't you get? $90 is $90 in my book. Maybe you could send me a check and i'll just buy a new one...…………..
