Hi everyone, been enjoying the forum and have gotten some great info on service and upgrades here.

I have a 2019 Sequoia Limited, 4x4, bought used with 20K miles on it. So far love the vehicle minus one little nuance that has been driving me crazy since day 1.

I get a short binding/clunk noise shortly after pulling out of my driveway or a parking space where I had to use reverse to originally park. You can quickly feel it in the floorboard and it happens within 5-20 feet of where I was parked and I never hear it again. I thought I heard it once after having to take a sharp left once to pull into a space and then heard it again after starting it back up and pulling out of the lot, never having used reverse in this case as I pulled through the spot, but as far as I can remember, that’s the only time I’ve heard it where I didn’t reverse first.

To eliminate it being gear related, I did change the rear differential fluid with some Mobil1 75W-90. It made no difference.

It “feels” like it’s coming from the drivetrain and I can only guess that maybe it’s the U-joints when the slack is drawn out from switching direction? (Reverse to forward) That’s the best guess I can offer. Was planning on bringing to local Toyota shop to diagnose but thought I would check here first. I haven’t tried this in 4 wheel drive to see if it duplicates. This is strictly in 2 wheel drive mode.

It may be like the tundras and could be the abs self check. Mine does it at 5mph and only after the truck has been off (first time driving after starting the truck). Does yours do this even if you haven’t shut off the engine?

That’s a great question. Let me try this and see. And you’re right about the MPH too I think. It’s right around that speed it happens. I’ll investigate more today.

Thanks for the help and reassurance.

Abs check. It happens on initial drive off every time the engine is started. Completely normal.

Glad this thread popped up. I back into my driveway and live on a corner, so the ‘thunk’ happens to me every time I pull out.

I figured it couldn’t be serious if it couldn’t be reproduced on the road. Now I have complete peace of mind.

I have a 2021 Limited purchased last October and it does the same thing. However, I don’t remember hearing this the first few months that I’ve had it. Any other thoughts before I take it in?
