Looking at changing grille and bulge. TRD pro grille. Site has attitude on back order. But have “black”. Think there’s much of a difference with the the color? Really want it to match correctly. Probably not a huge difference. Just curious if anyone went this route.

I can't remember the year, but Toyota switched to Midnight Black Metallic somewhere around '16. It has a bit of a blue flake in the paint that is somewhat noticeable to me from the Attitude Black (which I don't believe has the blue metallic flake in it), but I know some folks out there that have mixed and matched the two colors on grills and bulges and door handles and haven't noted much of a difference. @1UPPER didn't you have Sequoia door handles added to yours in Attitude Black? Sorry for tagging you if I'm wrong. Thanks!

Thanks. 15 here. No flake. Probably just go ahead and order it. I guess. Hate to return things. Be all excited to get it and it’s not right.

Attitude has blue sparkly flecks in the black, it’s a noticeable difference from Onyx that is a simple gloss black when light hits both.

I could tell putting my 2017 Onyx TRD Pro grille beside my 2019 Attitude one, which unfortunately only comes in Attitude for black. I carefully unclipped the center portion out and put it in the Onyx surround, some of the clips were tricky and I used a heat gun to loosen them.

From what I’ve been told from Toyota the attitude black and magnetic black are still the same paint specs. My attitude black has the exact same blue flake as the magnetic black. I do have sequoia high gloss handles but not attitude black. Personally no one has ever noticed the blue flake is not on my handles and the cost difference to have the handles custom painted isn’t worth it IMO. If you go with OEM sequoia handles and mirror trims you are limited to the colors the sequoia comes in.

Just got the truck. So maybe need to find the official color. Compounded and polished the truck Wednesday. TRD 4x4 off road package. Didn’t see any flake. So maybe it’s just black. Classic back. Thanks for the replies.

+1 what 1UPPER said, most lay people won't notice, say OP if you originally had chrome or didn't have the older Pro grille to switch out surrounds, and wondering if painting is worth it. Attitude is essentially still black, and if you got an Attitude hood bulge, it would frame the center portion like you did it on purpose. There's no right or wrong way, people would probably notice the TSS cover more, how it breaks the continuity of the honeycomb (did you buy one? it's a rectangular hole without).

Getting a little OT here, but I look at 1UPPER's truck and that's a free spirit one-of-a-kind badass Tundra, well done to the max, meanwhile mine's a fantasizing Pro lol. For the record Pros are super rare where I am, haven't seen one in real life of any kind/year.

Open your driver side door and look at the number shown below indicated with the blue arrow. If you number 218 you have Attitude black or Midnight Black Metallic (2016+ models). If you see 202 you have Black.

2017 Midnight Black (218) here and just went with the Black (202) Grille.....not noticeable at all. Would do it again.

    Thank you Upper and 4Runner.
Much appreciated for the replies. Just educating myself with these trucks on this site. Love this site and the folks here are much better than the gm forums. Time to get rid of some chrome. Will plasti dip the bumper end caps. Just didn’t want that massive grille Plasti dipped.

So, I think I'm kinda convinced but... Same question regarding fender flares. It's a bit more real estate so I'm not sure if it would stick out like a sore thumb to me. I have 218 (Attitude/Midnight) but the Fender flares are OEM Onyx black(not sure if that's still 202.) Truth be told, I offroad for a living and my truck is dirty 6 out of 7 days of the week... Thoughts?

Flares I went with 218…..I then sold them before install. Lol. Anyway, the reason I didn’t care for the bulge was because there were other components not in 218. Flares might be fine but I would go 218 to be sure.

2017 switched to the paint matched items 218code\ Attitude black. They changed the name and code but the blue flake/color the same.

Nice looking truck….not liking the new version and certainly not liking the engine options. Yuck.
