Black out center portion of Limited Grill.

I tackled the process of removing the center portion of my grill so I can paint it to lessen the bling on my limited.

I gotta say, it was daunting initially but a heat gun works wonders on the 13 tabs you have to bend. I didn’t break a single one actually.

Here’s the end product. I dig it, at least while I save for the color matched pro or sport option. What y’all think?

 

I would have left it chrome.

 

Much, much better I'd say. I did something similar on my 99 Passat, painting the \X/ flat black to match the grille. Loves the look. I think a color-match sport grille would look great on your truck.

 

Yup, you did really good. I've got a white Limited and I always wondered how that grill style would look in black. I actually really like that look...other than the chrome, which I'm slowly saving up for and trying to remove.

Thanks, I was kinda liking the brushed look of the center portion but since everything had been getting the black out treatment I was like “eh let’s try it.” I tried plastidip initially but it looked rough.

I went the other way, color matched the outer.
I thought about doing the center black now though.

That’s what I wanted to do initially and actually might still keep the center part when I get the cav blue surround. Your color looks badass with that combo right now.

 

I think it looks nice blacked out.

I hated my 2014 chrome grille, surround, and headlights.



Didn't take long to fix it..
Well, a little long, I had to get the surround painted locally.
They didn't offer the TRD Pro grille surround in MGM in 2015.
Had them paint the TOYOTA letters to match as well.

Looks good. I did the same thing to mine and left the emblem chrome. I think it balances out well. I used black spray on bed liner. Many coats so there is no rock/bug chipping issues. What did you use to black ot out?

 

I have the original grill and surround off of my 2017 boxed up. If anyone wants it let me know, you pay shipping.

 

I like it but would go Cav blue on the surround and bumper end caps.

 

So that’s the plan actually but looking to prob swap to either a sport or pro grill with the cav blue surround and end caps. Everything is just crazy expensive so saving slowly for once instead of just buying impulsively. I don’t even recognize myself haha
