Has anyone figured out how to utilize the blank toggle switch's under the radio? Ideally we would be able to use these for lights or other accessories instead of having to run a switch pro.

I am aware of the blank rectangle switches on the dash to the left of the steering wheel and am not questioning those.

I think they might be wired to a box in the engine bay for added accessories to keep from manually running wires into the cabin. A lot of trucks are doing this now. I think it started with the raptor? Or at least that's the first truck I saw have that but my dads 2022 HD ram has it also. He hooked up a light bar to the box in the engine bay and is controlled by the interior toggle switches

My blanks don't seem to actuate. They're pretty solidly fixed in the neutral position. Not sure if a replacement switch is needed, or if maybe doing something behind the dash will free them up. You're getting my hopes up that it's gonna be super easy and pre-wired! Sounds too good to be true.

Yeah I did some digging online.

Looks like some of them are used for certain trim packages.

The switch sold by Toyota are a fully assembly depending on trim package and options. It’s basically a module in itself and doesn’t look like it have wires running to each switch, just a connector for the assembly. Only thing I can think of doing is buying a higher trim model and using a wiring diagram, repin the switches for different purpose. But not sure if it’ll work if requires communication to can bus for switches to work. Newer cars are getting more complicated. o_O

Hopefully a company will make some aftermarket options. I don't have the trailer switch (closest switch to driver in the center dash area) and would love to use that for my light bar

    For anyone interested,
    (2022 Platinum model)

The left side switch panel has what looks like 3x square blanks in it (see pics below)...but 2x right side "blanks" are not blank at all, and appear to be some connectors w/o a front facing button (or, are they just blanks, with wiring/plugs ready and preinstalled for whatever feature?).
Only one of these is a true blank-which I used to install a switch (16mm round, off Amazon) for my rear aux/reverse LEDs.

Pic 1&2=original panel in and out sides:

    My switch installed:

    Side note:
For anyone who runs Uniden radar detector, and uses their hardwire kit with the remote mute button.
Our shifter has enough room on the back side to accept a 12mm momentary switch.
So, if you don't want the Uniden mute-button box sticking out like a sore thumb somewhere, you have break it apart, de-solder its microswitch off the PCB board, solder up 2 wire leads in its place, then run 2 wires through your dash/console and up to the shifter switch.

A bit of work, but I now don't have to even take my hand off the shifter to mute the R3 detector, and it looks clean+hidden (IMO):

    Both switches in pic below.
(hard-wired R3 detector, hard-wired dash cam, EZpass painted black, minimal footprint black switches for any thing I need)
    Hope this helps someone...

The parts diagram I posted (Blank Toggle Switch's) shows what the 2 right blanks are. Looks like for Tow mirrors slide out and in switch and the Tow mirror light switch?

The blank that you took out is for trucks with manual leveling headlight. Platinum I assume has auto leveling headlight, so it's blank for you.

Well, good then. I have no plans to buy/install elephant ears (tow mirrors), and am glad that at least one blank is/was available there, as I'm not a big fan of "custom" panels and switches b/c after some time they all look like they just don't belong where they are.

    PS:
With the way the light hits in this picture, look at the difference in all the plastic materials used; everything's paper thin and cheaper by the day...

I've got the manual headlight leveling dial there so that will be a no go for me.

I wonder if you could just unplug the harnesses from the unused tow mirror switches and tuck them away, then remove the blanks and replace them with face plates that don't have the connectors in the back so you could essentially do the same thing @TakiEvo just did on his truck.

I have the top trim line and still have 3 blanks that don't actuate. Pretty annoying that toyota wouldn't make those spots useful. Fingers crossed for an aftermarket solution because I would much rather have my light bar and Ditch lights wired to those toggles than the buttons left of the steering wheel.

I don't think it is even possible to configure a truck with all of the switches. Out of the 3 on the right side, 2 are for the rear air suspension, and I believe the third is for the rear diff locker. And I don't think you can even get a rear locker if you have air suspension, since it requires the off road package. So you will never be able to fill them all up. Definitely would be nice to be able to utilize them for something else.

It would be nice for those that have the diff locker, but use air bags for additional support when hauling to utilize the unused switches representing air suspension.

What size drill bit did you use to make the hole? I got the same switch and don’t want to mess it up!
    Thanks

It's been so long that I honestly don't remember.

Take a spare/random piece of plastic or whatever and drill "practice" holes until you get the right fit, before drilling in the real thing.

I'm too broke after buying this rig to afford mods.
@99ways2die did you ever find out if those wires going to the blanks are live? What happens if unplugged?

    EDIT: Lots of blanks here.

They're just unused plugs; pre-wired for tow mirrors or perhaps some other thing(s) my truck doesn't have.
Safe to remove them from the slot and just "leave em dangling" if you want to use the square blank for something else.

How did you wire it. Can’t figure it out.

the light bars are working, but I can’t get the backlight to light up when on. I had it wired at one point where it would light up when the lights were off…

    Hey,
While I honestly don't recall, you should wire up your switch's "indicator light ON wire" to the accessory ON wire.
Meaning: light wire to the same wire as your 12V+ trigger wire, so when the switch is activated and send power out (though whatever color wire) to an accessory/light/relay, it will also light up the indicator light on the switch itself.
This way you press the button and the light bar + light on the switch are on; once off everything is off.

If you show me the exact switch you used, and if the same as mine, I can verify for you if you're really stuck.
I know I have a couple of spares somewhere in the garage.

    Switch to harness

    Black to black (ground)

    Green to blue (relay)

Red and blue to white (power)

This resulted in the light being on when bars were off.

Could you share some more details on the 12mm switch you used in the shifter and any other photo's of this install you may have? I really like this switch location for one that can be located easily while driving. I am thinking a switch in this location would make a great trigger switch to go along with a Garmin power switch so the function of the switch can easily be changed.

This is the switch I used:
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09BKXT1J1?ie=UTF8

Take shifter off, drill a hole (drill practice holes on a spare piece of plastic to get the "right" size -not loose but also tight enough so that you can lightly thread in the switch body into the hole), with pliers trim any internal pieces of plastic on the shifter if needed (I honestly don't remember if I had to do that at all), thread or push the switch in and once insid ethe shifter body you will need to bend the switch's wire pins a little.
Now run your wires to whatever device/function you need.
I used a momentary switch for radar detector "mute button" but you can probably use the same type/size of a switch in latching config to be an on/off switch.
(before anyone asks: yes, I took apart my Uniden remote mute button, desoldered the OEM push button switch on it, soldered 2 wires and ran them to the now remote mute button in the shifter......a bit of work, but very much worth the hassle as far as QOL mod, for me)

any updates on that paddle switch ? that left one in front of the shifter would be light bar perfect. i could literally just rest my arm on shifter and hit it..

im actually holding off buying a light bar simply because installing the switch on the left panel would be annoying ..you have to take your eyes off the road to hit the switch and sit up to reach it ..F that

I have a Platinum with air suspension and I’m pretty sure those unused switches are control,s for that system. (I’m 600 miles from the truck for the next 10 days or I’d go confirm.)
