Ok so I have the green light from "The Account" to purchase a boat. We know what marina that we are going to keep it at BUT I have to be on a wait list.

What do you think the maximum boat weight that I could launch and recover? I will keep it at a lot 200 yds from the launch so I don't need to worry about "safely" towing the boat on a road.

We are looking at 29-33 foot boats and their weights vary from 9K-16k lbs. Could I launch and recover WITHOUT damaging the truck?

    I have a 2020 1794 CM.

    Thanks for your thoughts!

For the use you describe, I’d keep it 12k lbs or less. Even that might flatten your springs. And don’t even consider if you’re RWD unless you’re looking to be YouTube famous.

I would say no. Your truck is not designed for that weight.

Something to consider - the marina should have a tractor or similar to launch and recover. If it will always be there, do you need to limit yourself with the truck considering it isn’t going to be able to tow no matter what?

It is a military base marina and they don't offer that. I guess I'll have to use a regular marina for a year then transfer.

Take a look at some of the "boat ramp fails" vids on youtube. You will have the answer to your question!

Always use the right tool for the job- A half ton truck is not the tool to move and ramp load/unload 10k+lb, 30 foot boat.

    Thanks everyone.

9-16K is a lot of boat for a half ton. I'd hate to be on the ramp and have a boat drag you down into the water.

Rent a 3/4 ton for a day or make a friend with a 3/4 or ton truck.

Toyota Space Shuttle commercial comes to mind :monocle:

Short distance, slow drive, heavy load ... granted it wasn't down a slippery and wet ramp but 292000 lbs on a flat road. You should love your V8 and the transmission no matter what :D
    Gas :spending:

For a boat of that size and weight, I would think about an in-and-out service. My co-worker trailered a very short distance like you are looking at for a year before signing up with a service. He said he would never go back. MUCH faster, MUCH safer and MUCH less potential for problems. He said that he takes the boat out about 2x more now that the effort is so much lower.

    Just a thought.
