    Good day all.

2016 Tundra with ~ 65k miles. Brake light is coming on in the gauge cluster but eventually goes off. The emergency brake is NOT set and the truck brakes fine. I do think I'm getting close to brake job time.

    Thoughts?

Apologies if this is discussed in another thread. I searched and didn't see anything but my search skills suck.

    possible causes
Ebrake hung up or out of adjustment
low brake fluid or fluid leak - note- as the pads wear, the level in the master does drop some. So you may not have a leak but level could be lower than it should be
    worn brake pads
    Bad brake bulbs

    Most likely low fluid

Yep....that's exactly what it was. It was slightly above the minimum line but I went ahead and topped it off. No more light. Good to now know how sensitive (or accurate may be the better word) it is.

    Thanks!

Check your e-brake line where it comes out of the rear drum. If the line has been pulled/yanked on, then try pushing it back into the drum. Otherwise, take apart the drum assembly to tighten up the line.

My truck has a big lift so when it flexed the ebrake lines where getting stretched, basically had to remove some of the bolts that kept the line hung up in the rear wheel well to give it more slack. The brake light would come on intermittently but after a while it just stayed on.
