This popped up this morning. What does this mean?

Shut it down once I was around the block and now my truck won’t start.

Also, no taillights so I think it must be a fuse.

Just replaced the brake light fuse with a new one. Still no lights. No start. Any ideas?

Try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and then hooking it back up and see if that clears it up

Another symptom. Brake pedal is very hard, almost no give at all.

last night I replaced a rear LED bulb as part of my hot tails that had gone bad. Just checked that was tight and no pinched wires when I reinstalled the taillight housing. I also noticed that my license plate lights do not come on when I turn on the headlights.

Sounds like something with the master or ABS unit then. That message is usually shown when you press the brake and the accelerator at the same time.

Pull that new bulb you put in, replace the fuse again, and see what happens. Since the bulb is the newest addition, I’d be suspicious of it.

Checked the engine bay. No signs of rodent damage.

Thinking about what changed. Since parking last night the only thing I did was changed the rear LED bulb. Replaced it, had the wife apply brake pedal to ensure function and that was it. However, I did not pull the negative terminal when replacing the bulb.

So going to pul negative terminal. Replace fuses. Check all connections in the taillight again, then reconnect negative terminal. We’ll see where that puts me.

In my case it was LEER cap with dome light. I was getting this message every couple of weeks. The cure was to add an extra diode to dome light. Actually I was adding a small battery and charging controller to power dome light when the truck is shut, the diode was added to avoid draining the battery back to the truck. But the issue has gone since that. Perhaps, LED driver makes Tundra's electronics upset, though I don't understand how.

I have been running the same setup since October of 2021 when @memario1214 released the hottails. No issues at all until now. That is what I suspect my install caused the issue.

Maybe the LED drivers have degraded in two years and now emit more noise back to the line?

Okay. Pulled negative terminal off battery, replaced fuses, replaced terminal. Fuses instantly blow upon attempting to start.

    Possible bad brake switch?

Did you try pulling the new bulb when doing all of that too?

This. Make sure to pull the bulb before attempting to replace the fuse again @Dsptundra . I have never heard of something like this, but of course anything is possible! I am also suspicious of that bulb somehow. There's only one way to install it so I don't really question your install.

If I unplug/pull the bulb and don’t have a replacement will that be okay? Old bulb has been destroyed.

Okay. Disconnected the new bulb, replaced the fuse (10amp STOP), and then reconnected battery. I then got into the cab and stepped on the brake before trying ignition. Heard the snap of the fuse blowing again.

Okay. Next steps. Pull negative terminal, pulled all LED bulbs and replaced with OEM. Replaced fuse. Truck fired right up.

would the cause be a faulty resistor on the hot tails for the LEDs?

Only resistors in the system are tied to the blinker/reverse bulb as I had hyper flash when in reverse and a blinker on. Those lights continued to see power as I was able to use my key fob to lock and unlock when power was connected and they would blink.

I'm guessing bad brake switch. You still have no brake lights? If you step on the brakes before turning on the ignition, same outcome?

Hope you have a multi-meter. Check at the fuse for continuity to ground. If it's open, step on the brake (without the ignition on) and see if what that does. Still no continuity? Check again with the ignition on and foot on brake. You can do all of this with the bad fuse or no fuse. The brake lights work without the ignition on.

I would also start fresh, totally disconnect both brake light assemblies at the plug and test. Somewhere along the line, you have power going to ground, you need to find out where.

Hi crew - I just ran into this issue yesterday when installing LED bulbs in the tail lights. What’s the consensus here? Even though they don’t call for it to address hyperflash (like the turns), should resistors be installed on the brake light lines?
    Thanks!

I installed a diode to prevent a parasitic drain from the small battery I use for Leer dome light, it helped. Resistor may help, too.

My issue was resolved when I found a bad tail light where the wiring to the LED had been damaged somehow. This was leading for a short and blowing the fuse.
