Brake pad slides/anti-rattle clips get lubed?

    Do you guys put any lube on the pad slides/anti-rattle clips or just the pins that go through the pads? I am getting a lot of squeaking when I hit bumps and I am wondering if the clips are the cause. I will be replacing the pads and rotors soon due to vibration when braking.

    Too many…scratch that…not done yet.
    Absolutely! Lube the clips anywhere the pads slide/touch, as well as guide pins.
    The pads have 'squealers' which are designed to alert you when they're low.
    The brakes aside, if you're getting the squeaks when you go over bumps, that would make me think some thing with the suspension...maybe the shocks or springs.

    Yep. Thin coat of Permatex purple goo on everything metal on metal. 3m silicone where there's rubber. Been my go to for years now.

    Got my mechanics certification from the 2 Eric's on Youtube (SMA and ETCG)

    Only areas the SRM says to grease is the caliper piston seals (when replaced), and the No. 1 anti-squeal shim. The No. 1 shim is the textured one that goes between the plain No. 2 shim and the back of the pad. Lube both sides of the No. 1 Anti-squeal shim with "disc brake grease". The SRM says nothing about lubing pins or other parts, but I've read of owners doing it for corrosion protection.

    +1 on the slide pins!

    good practice to do that periodically (maybe every other time you rotate tires). I also crack the bleeders every time I rotate since in the salt belt they rust-weld into the caliper. My wife's Matrix has almost 200k and I can still bleed the brakes like a southerner! :D

    SMA (SouthMainAuto) believes in only lubricating under the slider hardware to limit corrosion since we're deep in the salt belt. In other words, he doesn't grease the pad where it touches the SS-hardware. I've noticed that on the front 4-piston calipers since there isnt' any slider hardware, SMA lubes where the pad slides on the caliper.

    I've always used silicone grease on both sides of the slider hardware and have noticed that they do get gunked-up...so trying the SMA-approach on a brake job that I did over the holidays. (I also de-rusted/ sprayed the caliper bracket area where the hardware mounts with Amsoil MPHD to limit pad-pinching corrosion).
