I accidentally allowed a drop of bug spray to land on my 1794 leather seat. I didn't notice that I had done it until about an hour afterwards. What is the best way to repair this, or at least protect the leather from further wear or deterioration? I wiped it off and used a Meguiar's
leather cleaner to clean it up as well as I could.

That looks like it took off the outer layer of finish on the leather. Ugh.

That sucks! I would call a leather repair company they can probably dye the are to make it less noticeable.

Is the trouble spot textured now? I agree with Luv that it appears the plastic coating was dissolved/removed. In addition to dying it I would look to see if there is a way to recoat it. The r/autodetailing subreddit has a few posters that do airplane leather restoration; you may get some specific solutions there. Leather tends to be its own niche unless a detailer has it inhouse.

A lot of bug sprays have DEET in them. What is DEET you ask? Well I'll just tell you that I use it (bug spray with 60% DEET) with high success (at low cost) to freshen up the plastic headlight covers on my 1997 T100.

Some sunscreens will do that too, be careful.

It may not be the DEET itself but the carrier solvents. There are a few sprays that affect plastic as you described.

Yup. That small spot feels like raw leather.

I'll have to see what we have around here. I know of some good boot shops. Maybe they do basic leather upholstery repairs as well. Thanks for the idea.

Yup - textured. I'll check with the boot shops I mentioned to see what they can do.

    Thank y'all for your replies!
