Even with ceramic coating you'll have to clean them. By far the best cleaner I have found is dryer sheets. Wet the grill, then rub with the dryer sheets. Once all the bug goo is off, rinse off, rubbing with a microfiber cloth. Then rinse. No more bug goo! The trick is to wash them off as quickly as possible (within a day or two max) before the acid in their blood starts to pit your paint or chrome.

Oh yes, I never paid attention to lovebugs until Hurricane Katrina woke up about 900 gazillion of them, then noticed how bad they were EVERY FRIGGIN YEAR! I go out of my way to kill them when they're flying around me.

I don’t know a good way to keep them off. But a good way to clean them off easy is a “moist” dryer sheet. The damp dryer sheet allows it to glide over the body and take the bugs off easy.

This stuff works really well getting bugs, oil/tar, etc... It’s the old Honda polish. I’ve used it for years on all my vehicles, and have yet to find something that’s better at removing bugs.BA6C251D-E641-4C65-9F57-4CF7D3CD90A0.jpg

I use a new ceramic spray on wax from turtle. The bugs still stick but it's a heck of a lot easier to clean them off with this wax on. And I spray this stuff on the truck while it's still wet from washing it. So easy. Use microfiber towels to dry off and wax at the same time.

It helps to stop at truck stops along the way and in the big truck bays you can usually find long handled brush and soap water plus a rinse hose. Car wash is always another option. Pull into any city, google car wash blah blah blah and $2 later it's a whole bunch better. I do either or depends on availability.

These are popular myths! Love bugs are native to the gulf states with fluctuations in population since the first published records in the early 1900s.

Thanks everyone! I swear my old neighbor used to put something on bud before road trips and literally the bugs would never stick to the front at all. Maybe a couple. I guess just wax of some sort.

Keeping the truck well waxed goes a really long way with keeping dirt and bugs from sticking. Also makes removing bugs and overall cleaning of the truck much easier. An hour spent waxing and protecting the finish will have you many many hours of cleaning over the next 3 or so months until it is time to wax again.

Ok, here’s what I tell all of my customers ….
NEVER use the kitchen scrubby pad!
(I have made thousands of dollars painting Benz bumpers for just reason)

**WD-40** will clean them off & keep them off the longest

Rubbing Alcohol or Magic Erasers will usually take them off also

When I lived in FLA I would only wax the whole vehicle about every six months. The front of the vehicle was waxed almost every wash. Helps so much in cleaning all those bug guts off

No, don't ever use Magic Erasers. They are EXTREMELY abrasive, just at a very fine level. They will damage your paint or chrome. You just won't see the damage immediately.

I coat the leading edges of a Bonanza with Pledge furniture polish. Bugs just wipe right off before putting it back in the hangar.

Never tried it, but I am interested in how well it works, especially for the family’s vehicles since they aren’t diligent about cleaning them off.

I just keep a spray bottle of water, some bounce sheets, and detail spray in the truck for long trips. I wipe them off when getting gas and when I get to my destination.
