I notice quite a few on here have said their dealer have allowed them to order the Tundra they want…I’d like to know if this is a Tundra that was on an allocation sheet or if they’ve actually been allowed to totally customize their truck off an option list? The reason I’m asking is because my dealer just called and said that there was nothing on their allocation list that meets what I want so I should come down and order it to my specs. While I like my salesman I don’t want to waste my time if it can’t be done…

    Thanks for your input.

You can't order a Tundra, or any Toyota to be built for you. What you can do is fill out a spec sheet and they will search the Tundras that are built or are scheduled to be built and try to match you with one. They do make it sound as if you are ordering one to be built.

Found out that that’s true…up to a point. If your dealer has had a previous truck on allotment that was close to what you want he can put in a request for another one. That’s what we did today. The one that was on order had been pre-sold but he filled out a request for another one, deleting the safe and floor mats I didn’t want, so I’ll be getting my new Wind Chill Pearl Platinum 4x4 sometime in March. I’m getting exactly what I was going to build to order.

The safe and the mats would be port installed options, so those make sense that they could be deleted.

Wow, you ordered today and will get it in March? Your dealer has much better success than the one's around me. They are only receiving one at a time and I was just told today that they don't expect to see another one for at least 3-4 months! As indicated in my other thread, I am having an issue with my AC (haven't even picked the truck up yet). When I spoke with the manager today, he made it very clear he would gladly cancel my sale, lol. I'm sure he would have it sold again in 5 minutes.

Bummer….I was surprised my dealer still had the new red SR on the lot unsold when I went there yesterday…it’s been there a week already.

If you're looking for a common build, it will be more readily available, or it will be harder to get, because it's a common build due to the demand for that build type. Red isn't very sought after, doesn't surprise me there's one sitting there that no one has snatched up. SR 4x4 CM in Lunar Rock / Sliver / MGM is probably built more and more sought after.

actually you can somewhat if you know your dealer well enough.

if you can get your dealer to log into dealer daily and go to the allocation request page you can select what packages/options the dealer wants sent to him once that allocation is received by the regional port.

you can actually select quite a bit on fine tuning what you want.

ext/int color, packages (some regional ports will force other packages if you select certain packages) or they let you piece meal only select packages.

also select what options you want installed at the port before being sent to the dealer.

regardless of what knabores says, you can "order" a toyota in a sense. trust me, the dealer i ordered by 2014 4runner let me follow along with him on the allocation request page since i wanted a specific 4runner that no one was getting (namely w/o 3rd seats) which is a unicorn on the limited 4runner. i also added the "DK" option (manual leather pouch) and no slide out tray (since my port was either putting in the slide out if you didnt get the 3rd row or 3rd row)

trust me, ive done this on my last 3 toyotas (2014 limited 4runner, 2016 tacoma sport, 2018 platinum tundra)

You can’t spec a Tundra, have that spec sheet sent to the factory and have a Tundra built for you the way you want it. You can do that with GM, but not with Toyota. With Toyota, you can spec a truck or car out, and they will find one built like that. The more obscure your preferences are, the harder it will be to find one. They won’t build one just for you.

Surprised me because this is the only unsold 2022 Tundra in the area…neither of the two dealers has had any Tundras on their lots and this is south Mississippi…home of the big truck.

So call it what you will my order was accepted by Toyota and is being built.

It’s splitting hairs, but it’s an important distinction. Toyota’s already planned allocation was accepted by you and is being built.

i guess you missed this whole line i posted.

you cant put in an order to the factory, you put in a request to the regional port. once that port gets an allocation with your request vehicle/trim/pkg/options on it, it is directed to the dealer.

once your request is sent to the regional port, 1. either the port accepts the request or 2. rejects it based on the port rules and your request criteria and any rules toyota has put into place on top of the regional restrictions. these rules go out the window for GST (Gulf States) / SET (South East) regions since they have completely different rules than toyota usa regional ports.

    • Boston Office (ME, NH, VT, MA, RI) 508-339-5701
    • New York (NY, NJ, CT) 973-575-7600
    • Central Atlantic (PA, VA, WV, MD, DE) 410-760-1500
    • Southeast Region (NC, SC, AL, GA, FL) 954-429-2000
    • Cincinnati Region (MI, OH, KY, TN) 513-745-7500
    • Chicago Region (MN, WI, IL, IN) 630-907-0150
    • Kansas City Region (ND, SD, NE, KS, IA, M0) 816-891-1000
    • Gulf States Region (OK, TX, MS, LA, AR) 713-580-3300
    • Portland Region (AK, WA, OR, ID, MT) 503-493-4900
    • Denver Region (WY, CO, UT, NM, AZ, NV) 303-799-6776
    • San Francisco Region (Northern CA) 925-830-8300
    • LA Region (Southern CA) 949-727-2700
** these phone # i had from an old file so dont know if they are still valid.

usually its take 1-3 days for the request to be approved/rejected. if its rejected the dealer should contact you and explain what needs to fixed or changed for the port to accept your request.

once your allocation is accepted by the port, your dealer will be able to get status updates on the progress of your toyota being built and shipped. the system doesnt get updated on a daily basis, only when it hits key locations.

here is my paperwork of dealerdaily and status reports ...

and yes you can load the website, but unless you have dealer login the page wont work.

also to add, if you noticed, my dealer daily allocation request was accepted back on 14-oct and the build date was 2-nov.

edit: that price after rebate & discount is off, final haggle price brought it down to $47,749 before trade in.

With GM, you can order whatever the hell you want and they will build it for you. That’s ordering a truck to your specs.

thats great but also introduces unforseen issues when you start mixing and matching stuff from every bucket.

either you get everything and the kitchen sink (big 3) and all the inherent problems of jack of all or you go toyota way and you get a small selection of what you can order.

i think that is why toyota and somewhat honda have an overall low issue rate with vehicles since you are not throwing everything into the mix. if you can only pick from 20-30 or 40 items your interactions between systems has mostly been flushed out.

i've gone thru a f150 build and my god, there is like 100-150 different things you can select to have built on your order. the nightmare of testing all those combo's and seeing if this or that has a bug between them must be mind numbing to test, or tested at all.

each has pro's and con's. hence people love the big 3 and people love toyota.

whats really sad, until my dealer lets me know allocation requests have opened up, i wont be getting a tundra anytime soon. i am looking for certain package/options combo's and i DONT want the auto boards period. i rather not get the HUD if my port is requiring HUD and auto boards be checked on the request form.

right now all the platinum's i have seen have come with either auto boards or hud + auto boards.

they will let me know when allocation request open so until then, its a long patient wait for us. who knows, the wife mentioned interest in the new sequoia but meh no mpg improvement over the gas engine means hard sell for us right now.

    have to wait and see.

Pretty sure OP just wanted to know if he could order a truck from his Toyota dealer. Explained the differences in perceived ability to do so and reality, so he would know how it works.

What the fuck ever…I built a truck online, took that build to my dealer, and now I’m getting “that” truck delivered to me. So what if it was on a fucking allocation…the dealer didn’t have it, had to add/delete pkgs and I’m getting it. I call that a “build”…you can call it whatever the fuck you want to.

Glad it worked out, you asked if it was going to be a waste of time to go in an try to order the truck. It could have been if you wanted some oddball truck because of how their “ordering” system works. You seem a little testy about the discussion, so I guess we’ll consider this thread closed. Again, congrats.

But did you really build it….I am asking not to be a smart ass but you said you “built ” a 4x4 platinum to your specific order….there is one package in the GST for platinums and that is the tow mirror pVm package and nothing else so basically you just asked them to get you one in the color you wanted with 4x4 minus the port installed shit which technically anyone can do. Now if you said you ordered a SR5 with 4-5 different package combinations then yes that would be truely “building” a truck and I doubt they would be able to fulfill that request.

also I remember you commenting on one of my post about Limited with TRD and you were having the same problem with them not being able to build that one to your desired specifications.

Ah, shit. You had to go and whack the hornet’s nest again…

But I agree with you, this wasn’t an “order.” This thread should have been titled “Build your own…dictionary”

Lol not trying to stir the hornets nest up just want people visiting this post to not get the false sense of hope that they can order what they want….but instead if they want specific trims in the color they want with little to no packages added then more then likely that request would be filled.

I used a North Carolina zip code and built it on their site, downloaded the “build”, printed it out and took it to my dealer. I’m getting the Advanced Package, power running boards and power bed step, none of which are on the GST build sheet. This is all I wanted and is all I’m getting.

Then yes that is different. If they were able to get a package not available in GST. Thought you wanted a standard platinum with no packages.
