I'm pushing 80 years old and stepping from the ground to the top of the rear bumper isn't nearly as easy as it used to be. I'm looking for options to get an intermediate step to help get into the truck bed. I see Chevy has a cut out step in the bumper corners and there are bolt-on steps available. I thought maybe some of you that have owned a gen II truck longer might have figured something out. ideas appreciated!

I have seen the corner mount step, and it is an option. I'm just looking to see if there is something I've missed.

Bikeric, Thanks for the evaluation on the cut out bumper and showing me the ladder. The ladder has some good reviews after some fastener changes.

Where you located? I've got one of those universal tailgate ladders new in box listed for sale on my local facebook market place but if you're local to Indiana (or between here and any of my future trips) I'll cut you an extremely better deal than northern tool.

There was a guy on youtube that put a ~2014 GM bumper with the steps on a '07-13 Tundra and it looked pretty good. IIRC he made new bumper mounts.

I have one of those AMP steps still in the box. Havent gotten around to installing it though.

so far, I think I like the AMP step best but I've got to get accustomed to that price. I like the price of the ladder but I'm not sure if it will be convenient stored on the tailgate.

Check ur local Toyota dealer, they also have bed step. You could compare price with the amp step.

That the reason I started this thread, to try to find all the options. I didn't know Toyota offered one. I'll check.

After looking at the Amp Step I settled on Bestop's Trek step. It was more non-skid with a larger step pad for a better price. Functions the same as the Amp, or Toyota's AMP.0208140955.jpg

Does it come down when you open the tailgate? Or is there a switch? I already have amp steps and love them, this would be a nice addition.

Depending on how they're adjusted, you either use your foot or your hand to lower the step. The smaller, more expensive and slicker when wet AMP Research (Toyota "OEM") operates the same way. Here's a pic of mine when folded on my 2010.Resized_20201210_075223.jpg

So the Toyota OEM and the AMP are the same? So far, I've found the Toyota OEM for $185 + !5 shipping.

As much as I am not a ford guy. I drove a 2012 F150 (company truck) It had a step hidden in the tailgate with the stripper pole to help you pull yourself up. That should be a standard.

Yes, just like Toyota doesn't build step bars, they don't build bed steps. For me, there was too much extra 'non-skid' step surface on the Trek Step to buy from AMP Research.

Have the Bestop step and it has worked great for the last few years. A little tricky to pull down until you get the knack for it. Use it every time I need to step up onto the tailgate.

I've had to re-adjust mine a few times till I get a 'happy medium' between far enough out and sticking out too far. I've since moved it out to the left a bit (first pic is from 2013) Second is where it is now.

If it's that serious I just take the tailgate off if I'm going to be in and out a lot, but can see how that'd be a challenge also.

Where would you be using this step? And by that I mean how often when you are out and about do you need it? Or would this be used say 80% of the time when you are at home? I bought one of these and it is perfect for getting in and out of the bed. Also works perfectly for washing and drying the roof of the cab. And being really light weight, would be very easy to just haul along if you are going to need it out on the road. Plus perfect for around the house chaining light bulbs, etc. Note how deep the to step is..pretty much enough room for both feet to have entire support....much better than one step that can only accommodate 1/2 of one foot.

In my case, after surgeries on both shoulders and hands, the Trek Step is the best way for me to stay the heck off the operating table!:D

Many have posted these already, but I will join with my AMP step.
I don't use it as much as I thought I would but the few times that I used it I was glad that I had it.

It is a little more expensive than the Bestop step, but I like the profile better when it is folded up; it follows the lines of the bumper a little better. Bestop has a bigger step and I think maybe more skid-resistant. I guess it is a form over function thing - at the end they both will do the same job.
