Edmunds is pretty good about year to year differences.

This was an AWESOME video as I just purchased a 2021 with just 2000 miles on it

Nice! 2nd Tundras are great trucks, only major problem was 2019-21 when they removed the transmission cooler but luckily that can easily be added and then your good to go! Arguably but with no personal experience 2018 can be a problem because it was the first year for Toyota safety sense so of course it had issues and it was also the first year for the new refrigerant required(R1234) for the AC. There were some complaints that in 2018 that the AC did not work as good with the new refrigerant which is speculatively why they resigned the AC condenser in 2019 and eliminated the portion of it that used to house the transmission cooler. So 2017 would arguably be the last good year but 2019-21 is great as well after you add a transmission cooler.

Not sure if I will be towing much or any for that matter but I will consider the transmission cooler. Should I go with the factory original or aftermarket? What I am getting from this video it needs a sensor of some kind so the transmission does not run to cool which it won't like. Any advise on that please?

On a separate note, any Toyota recalls on the 2021? I need to address these ASAP at the dealer with my first maintenance. Is there any place I can lookup technical / manufactory recalls for Toyota?

I specifically wanted a 17 so as to have the last of the "real" trucks... without any of the extra computer stuff trying to take control. I don't have to wipe the ice off some stupid sensors or worry wether or not I've pushed the right button to ensure I'm "safe". A little dated, yes. Fucking awesome, absolutely. Any computer problems telling me how to drive, nope. Perfect.
Go for a 17' if you like being in control of you destiny!

I already have the 17 :) with 120K miles on it and is solid. It goes to my daughter so she can pull her horse trailer as I am tired of doing it. I took awesome care of my 2017 and is a beast for sure and yes I absolutely love the simplicity of it. I think the only problem I had with was with the MAFs getting condensation in and I had that fixed through warranty. Other than that, absolutely no issues. Initially I was considering the 3rd generation but is just ugly as shit, the interior is horrendous, and I absolutely hate the turbos. I test drove one and I can say is smooth and fast, give you that. And on top of that the prices are just insane, for what I wanted would be like $70+. So I went for the 2.5nd generation with the lowest mileage I could find and you can't find a 17 with that kind of mileage :) But I hear you brother.

There is a whole thread on it here. A forum member basically made a company out of his project to add a cooler to his truck. His kit is what the majority of forum members have used to add a cooler to their truck. It includes all OEM parts minus the hoses and radiator which need to be aftermarket since the cooler was in the AC condenser before 2019. The thermostat is what opens and closes the lines to the cooler, it doesn't plug in so I dont think Id call it a sensor.
