    Hi Guys,

Been lurking for a while trying to get my first Tundra, but dealers 100 miles around me refuse to go lower than 5% off of MSRP. So, now I'm looking to buy out of state, anybody have any experience with that or any dealers that have offered them good deals? I live in the Bay Area for reference, Thanks in Advance!

    I'm looking at a 2020, specifically looking at a Crewmax 4x4 SR5 with the SR5 Upgrade package

I got my 2015 from Vroom.com in Sept of 2018. All online, they have all makes and models with lots of pics.
Right now only 6 tundras in stock but inventory changes all the time. They finance and deliver in the conus for $499 when I got my truck.
Also try out of state dealers and negotiate and see how much their delivery to you is, or could be worth flying out and driving back.

I live in South Carolina and purchased my truck in Florida. I paid SC sales tax and up front property tax. The main difference was the dealer fee which was nearly double that of my state. No regrets as I got exactly what I wanted.

I live in Indiana and got mine from Canada. It was a 2019 limited with 6200 miles. Toyota has an exec sale that all their executives drive for a few months and sell . A friend of mine is the sales manager at a ford dealer and I told him what I wanted and he found it for me.

A lot of Socal people come to Phoenix to buy vehicles. I no longer have any sort of affiliation with any dealers so I can’t recommend anyone in particular. When I bought my 4runner in 2018. I think I paid 36500 for something with an MSRP of over 40k. Once you add in taxes, it was right at MSRP. I hate taxes. I miss the days of living in SC where it was capped at $300 for a long while. I guess calculate your local taxes and how much a flight would be to see if there’s any sort of significant savings. Some dealers will play ball, some are just overpriced. A friend of a friend’s best price on a new 4R was 2-3k more than what I ended up paying. Pass.

I bought 3 cars in PA when I lived in NJ and 2 cars in NJ while living in PA.
You pay the state sales tax for the state you live in.

It was the same as buying if the dealer was down the street from my house or a few hundred miles away.

If anything I found once they looked at my license for a test drive and saw how far I came from, willing to still walk away, I had slightly more negotiating power.

Just over a week ago I had a 2015 platinum shipped to me from Texas to Kentucky. Easily the best experience I’ve ever had buying from a dealer!

My 3 most recent vehicles have come from Georgia. I’m in NC. Dealers seem to be much more willing to come off msrp. I’ve saved thousands over local dealers.

I bought my 2019 in Maryland and I live in VA 200 miles away. Got a great deal - dealers around me won’t negotiate much so I don’t even bother anymore.
Nice part is MD state law limits the Doc Fee - it’s crazy in VA dealers change $500-$800 Doc fees and won’t waive them.

They increased the max to $500 now. Sucks but It still not as bad as other states.

I left the Seattle area to purchase in the Portland OR area. I figured out the price I wanted to pay and then just started to contact dealers to see if they could come close to it. Some will just ignore the request so they will get ruled out right away.

I just bought mine in Gainesville, GA, over 5 hours away from my Spanish Fort, AL home. They made it worth my while big time. COVID delayed me taking delivery for a couple of months and they told me that Toyota is not allowing nearly as much in wiggle room as before COVID (i.e. dealer rebates). So the market is probably going to be a little tighter for Tundras everywhere.

I bought my previous truck out of state. No problems. The only hitch that developed was that I made the initial contact, the deal, and picked it up in the span of about eight hours on a Saturday and did not think about the dealer's requirement that I have proof of insurance before I could take the truck.

Remarkably, they had a solution to that that worked at 5:15 on a Saturday. They had a contact that would write a temporary insurance policy for me for a week or two so that I could drive away. But for that, I would have wasted a two hour drive.

When I bought the Pro, I was ready with my own insurance arrangement.

    Good luck.

If you have a Costco card, go to their auto program. I used them to find my TRDPro. Got it for just below Invoice. Had Costco look at many states and found mine in another state. Saved $$$$'s. Here is a tip, look at places that is not a truck country.

    Don't buy it in Connecticut.
They will tax you for the wrong color choice, and if it is over $50k the Tax goes up another percentage point!. (CT "luxury" Tax)
What a great state to Not live in or buy a truck in. I was working with 5 dealers to try and get the best deal, aside from the "scumbag" dealership, no one was giving any breaks off any of the fees or added CT Bulltoast dings.
Stay away from the North east. You will always pay more here.

I've had good success inquiring through Carsurus.com. Find a dealer that has the exact color and trim, you'll be contacted by someone from their internet sales team. Based on my previous experiences they don't work for commission. It's all about moving vehicles and getting their numbers. Make the dealer earn your business. Good luck!

I live in CT and drove to Boston to buy 2 trucks lol. Save 5k on a Tacoma and almost 4k on the Tundra after paid taxes and registrations in CT.

The only thing about buying so far away, its impossible to go back to the dealer that you purchased from in case you have any issues. I know that any Toyota dealer "should" be able to help you but I like the comfort of knowing that you can go right back to where you bought it and talk to your sales rep and service center if any issues arise.

It has all been said. The internet is your friend. The only thing I have to add is that once you find your best deal and arrange to have it shipped, bring it to a local and ask them if they are willing to let your business go to another dealer. If they still refuse, buy it. Don't let them just match it. They should go cheaper.

I am on Long Island and purchased cars from Fla and Topeka, KS. My friend lives in Rockford and got a much better deal in NY. Came for a visit and then drove the car home saving thousands.

Be sure the truck is California Emissions approved.

In January 2019 I bought my new (17 miles on odometer) 2019 Limited w/ TRD Off Road Premium Package from Del Toyota in PA, 2.5 hour ride from my home in NJ. They were the only "close" dealer willing to make a deal. Got the truck for $41k on a $49k sticker. All done via phone ... took an Enterprise rental one-way, signed papers and left in my new Tundra :) Dealership made everything quick, painless and easy. They registered and titled the vehicle in NJ with no problem/issues.
