Does anyone know how can the gap be covered between the Cab and the Bed Cap?
My concern is when one drive the vehicle in the rainy condition and keep the window down for pass between the bed and the cab, the water from the roof will drain right inside behind the rear seats.
We are going for a long trip and the family sits on the back seat, but the dog is traveling in the bed (vehicle has Leer Bed Cap, so its good space for the dog). As trip is long and kids want to interact with the dog, we were planning to have the window down, but what if it's rain during the trip?
I also see this can be useful when transporting long items. If one have a CrewMax which has short bed, the down window is the only option to transport over 8' wood and again when it's rain how to protect the inside of the cab from water being washed from the roof and dripped right into and behind rear seats. The way the Tundra cab is made that the rear edge is rounded and no rain gatter there over the back window.
Open for opinions and suggestions? What do you use and where can I buy solutions?

you don't want it too close as the bed shift and twist under load/off road. You would end up crushing the cap into the cab.
    Same with bumpers.

You could put a boot in between the cab and cap. This will not give you the airflow you desire, but you could maybe open the windows on the cap. You could cut the boot in half leaving just the upper 50%, this would act like a rain guard. But if you open your front windows and get that reverse flow, it will still suck in water. But I do think this would be the best solution. I would suggest some clear 3M tape where the boot will rub the paint of the cab.

A temporary solution that I have used when camping with a truck that had a cap, was a small bicycle tube inflated in between the cab and cap. This of course was with a standard slider window.

once upon a time i remember inflatable boots... it would be around the perimeter of the window... maybe someone makes one to fir the full window? these trucks have been around a pretty long time and you cant be the first to want this... I would not use this if you find one as a permanent instal.. i bet it would eventually rub paint... good luck

Inflatable boot/tube from the bike is an interesting solution, but it would of work if we had a slider small window. Unfortunately for a full back window I don't think it would work as I don't know of any tube that big.

My biggest concern is rain and water washing from the cab roof into the cab once the window is open while driving.

As an alternative, as there of an option of creating sort of raingutter above the back window to prevent water coming inside of the cab from window down.
May be something with a 3M double side tape...

You might be good with a roll of pipe insulation, clear film for paint protection, and some double sided tape. Push cap back, apply protection film, apply double sided tape to hold pipe insulation temporarily until the cap is smashed up against it.

Put your dogs in a crate in the back and tell the kids they will see the pooches when you get to your destination. Dogs don’t need to be roaming free, nor do the kids to interact with the dogs in the back, very unsafe scenario you are trying to create

As I said this is more general question. What you do if you have 10 ft wood or 4×8 plywood and you need to use the cab and bed with path through. How to prevent water ingress through the back window.

The Tundra was introduced with full window down option back in 2000 if I'm not mistaken, so I was hoping somebody found the solution in the past 20 years...

The solution you are looking for is called a boot. You can ask your shell dealer if you want. You can also use expanding urethane foam if you want a $20 fix and don't care about the appearance.

For hauling building materials in the rain, enclosed trailer or rent a U-Haul.

The boot bed cap dealers have are for slide window. Tundra have full rear window roll down which cap dealers do not have anything in stock, I have asked few local dealers.

Well then, as I previously stated, pipe insulation is offered in various sizes and can also be cut down lengthwise to get close to the gap size, can easily go around the edge of the window frame starting and ending at the bottom in the middle..no leaks. Done.

I found this... kinda pricey... but in the comments they say they sale all types of gasket... the boot one(wider) looks to clip into opening of window... might get you some ideas

Another suggestion: take advantage of the crazy high prices for used Tundras and trade it in for a Chevy Suburban, GMC Yukon XL, etc. Plenty-O room for the kids and dog. And you can haul 4x8 sheets of plywood and 8’ boards!

Where are you that it’s not too damn hot for the dogs to be back there to begin with? Agree with @FrenchToasty, totally unsafe and not what I’d teach my kids or dogs. Go to the lumber yard when it’s not gonna rain or better yet have them deliver it.

Who can afford to go to a lumber yard these days?

Fill the gap between the top of the cab and the cap with a dollar pool noodle .

for a short term solution this is probably the best answer... I am actually going to implement this if I ever need to carry anything long... and on a side note I will also use the noodle as protection for the lower window area.. cut to length, slice down one side and drop over lower section of windows... thanks
