Realizing the cabin air filter cover orientation is marked as “UP” and the Toyota OEM cabin filter orientation is also marked “UP”, but does this also indicate air flow direction? Reason for asking is any aftermarket cabin air filter will show “air flow direction” not “UP” orientation. .

@frichco228: thank you!!! Exactly the info I needed. So I guessed right based upon the end sections of the pleats. So I don’t have to undo my aftermarket filter install!

Not needing replacing but wanted a better grade filter….. the OEM filter is basic. Also wanted to replace one now to understand access and the process.

My wife’s 2019 Explorer cabin air filter design access could possibly be the most ridiculous that an engineer could come up with.

Replacement will depend on your environment you drive your vehicle in,dusty roads will help change the micron size of the filter and eventually prevent air flow.

Exactly…. I replace the OEM cabin air and engine air filters with K&N almost as soon as I take vehicle possession

All the leaves and dirt and crap sits on top of the filter. It’s obviously flowing down. If the flow was the other way all the crap would be down in the bowels of the blower and the filter wouldn’t have anything on it but dust.
