Hi all. Working on changing front pads and rotors today. Went to compress the outside brake caliper pistons with the brake reservoir open and in the process of compressing those the inside top piston buldged out and is now crooked. In addition the boot slid up pulling the retaining ring with it. Any idea how to fix this? I tried compressing it a bit but no luck. I also tried light tapping it straight but no luck there either.

Never mind. I think I got it. Was able to use the c clamp on a slight angle and it went straight. Then it compressed in easily. Fingers crossed it didn’t jack up the piston

Another helpful hint... Next time instead of pushing all that dirty brake fluid back up the line... Just open the bleeder valve and let it push fluid out of the caliper ... Also.. leave the brake pad in position and use the C clamp on the pad and push both in at same time...

Thanks for the tips. Really helped on the other side. Ended up just leaving the pads in place and taking two c-clamps to compress both sets of pistons at the same time. 2 hour passenger side, 20 min drivers side….lesson learned.

Let me also say... Brake fluid is highly corrosive (dunno if that's the right word)... It will eat up a paint job if spilled on it...

Most people does not realize that compressing the pistons without opening the bleeder screw can potentially damage the seals inside the master cylinder.
