The time has come. Bedcage design is on the table. Who's got one? built em?, or knows a thing about em?
I will be doing a spring under conversion with some type of bedcage? (reason for this post), and couldn't find much documented help specific to a 1st gen Tundra, so any help here is appreciated.

Details: 2000 AC 4.7 2WD. 35" Toyo's, Will be doing SUA with Deavers and King smoothies 2.5X16's. Rear frame boxing/bracing is definite

Goal is to keep as much of the bed useable as I can, or keep everything (cage, shocks, etc.) as far forward and to the sides as they can be.

Thinking on mounting the shocks to the axle on the outside of the frame, if possible.

Shock mount locations to axle? Thinking drop mounts on front of axle to keep the tops low and to the front of the bed

Upper shock mount locations on cage? Thinking just inside the bed from front and side rails. Don't want too much angle to sacrifice performance tho

Any knowledge or experience to provide some insight or advice otherwise is welcomed..........

One more thing; Deaver no longer lists C-27's. What SUA leafpack?

    MCM canti for bed space?

I don't see it on the site anymore, but perhaps Matt is still making them. An under-bed canti setup will keep your whole bed available.

Hit up Keith at Dirty Deeds. He's got a 2wd he long-traveled with a bed-cage (not the cantilever). Plus, he knows a lot of stuff.

Yeah.... a good friend of mine runs that setup, and I'll admit it's pretty badass, but it's not for me. I have seen a few really tight and clean cages that left much of the bed still available.

Used to. Now he's down in Jamul. A bit of a trek for you. But no need to see it in person now. Ask him to link you to pics and pick his brain.

But if you do come down this way, give me a day's notice so we can meet for lunch!

Nope. I think this was the one I saw video of before I pulled the trigger on mine. Either Matt's or one he used for final fitment when he designed the cantilever.

I have been on the fence about LT but a lot of trails are not friendly for a wide rig

I've been reading this for 4years, running trails, and still haven't found an example to prove your point. I guess, maybe if you want to avoid pinstripes....

Wider wheel base isn't gonna make a difference with pinstriping. I mean, the body doesn't get any wider besides glass fenders and those don't count. If anything, wider wheels would protect the body more, especially paired with a set of sliders. I personally watched your sliders save your doors @Sunnier. Anyways, if more wide trucks keep runnin the trails, eventually the trails will be wider, right?

Yeah, I didn't say it for you. But was trying to acknowledge this idea a lot of people have about Tundras not being able to run trials. It's true there are trails Hulk shouldered through, and there's always gonna be branches against paint on those. But as long as the tires fit through, obviously the truck will too. There's a couple of narrow spots in Anza-Borrego that use to look too narrow, but now I've been through a couple times, it's no biggie.

Anyway, seems like most of the long-travel drivers I've met hang out in the open desert more than tight trails. But long-travel makes the truck more capable in all circumstances; I see money as the only drawback.

...but do they no longer look narrow because they grew wider, or because experience and confidence allow you to see them from a different perspective? Hmmmm???
